Maxwell next man up for the Seahawks
The Seahawks are down two cornerbacks as Walter Thurmond is under a four game suspension by the NFL and Brandon Browner is injured due to a groin injury. One of the replacements for the position is Maxwell.
“I take everything the same as I’ve been doing,” said Maxwell,. “So this is a little bigger deal to everybody else than it is to me. I prepared like a starter, even when I wasn’t. So it’s cool.”
Maxwell has played nine games for each of the two past seasons and will be filling in for the right cornerback position. Even though he does have game experience to be on the field, he has not started a game yet and he hasn’t played full games as he will against the Saints.
“Every chance you get out there it’s an opportunity and you want to do your best when you get out there,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell isn’t just a rookie filling in for an injured franchise starter though. The Seahawks defence is ranked at No.2 and as they face Saints quarterback Drew Brees, they will face to give a performance worthy of their ranking. Especially when two of their star cornerbacks are being filled in.
Safety Earl Thomas was confident of his team’s defence and knew they would do well.
“Let’s be real, we have a great defence,” he said. “And when we play like we know how to play – swarming to that ball, attention to detail, knowing how that offense wants to attack us – I don’t think anybody can beat us.
He added that every player had to have a chance to prove himself and Maxwell would not let the Seahawks down.
“I have the same chip on my shoulder, whether we have the guys we started the season with or the guys that are second string because they’re just as good. Nobody knew about Richard Sherman until he got his opportunity.”
Maxwell said that his gameplay involved enjoying the game and not hesitating from getting physical.
“I try to be physical. I try to play ball. Just have fun out there, basically. That’s what you get paid to do, have fun. So I do.”
