McCann signs 5 year deal with YankeesThe New York Yankees and 7 time all-star Brian McCann have reached a 5 year, $85 million deal pending the physical. McCann was this offseason's top free agent catcher and in seven of his nine years in Atlanta, he hit at least 20 home runs including last season where he hit 20 in 102 games. The deal does also have a vesting option for a 6th year which would make it 6 years for $100 million.

The Yankees were in need of a catcher after last season where Chris Stewart started most of the games. Stewart is primarily a backup and the amount of games he had to play last year clearly wore him out and he had almost nothing offensively in the second half of the season. Stewart hit just .211 with only 4 home runs and 25 RBIs. McCann's bat will be a huge upgrade in the Yankees lineup and it should be interesting to see what his lefty bat could do in Yankee Stadium.

This deal makes the Cardinals resigning of Yadier Molina after last season seem like an even better bargain
