FanIQ | Sports Rumors, Gossip, Blogs, News & Discussion ForumsOn Saturday the Memphis Grizzlies faced the Atlanta Hawks and ended up setting a record in their 79-76 win. Now they are the first time in NBA to have made only one free throw in a single game. They got that free throw in the third quarter and guard Courtney Lee made the foul shot after a defensive three-second violation foul against Gustavo Ayon.

Before this, the lowest number of free throws made in a single game record was held jointly by two teams, the New Orleans Hornets of 2004-5 era and Cleveland Cavaliers of 1994-5. They Hornets tied the record in a loss against the Phoenix Suns and Cavaliers originally set it in a win against Golden State Warriors.

The Grizzlies have been plagued with a problem of getting the line and it has persisted throughout the entire season. They are currently 27th in the NBA in free throws made per game, with 20.1. The San Antonio Spurs are even lower at 29th but they still have a better record(37-14). The Grizzlies are last in three pointers attempted in games with 14.3 and they are 22nd in three point percentage (.347).

But it has been their defense which has taken the brunt of pressure off them and allowed them to head into the playoff chase. During January the Grizzlies were 12-3 and were giving a solid performance, allowing under 100 points to opponents in all games except three.

February did not spell the same success of January as their performance was inconsistent. Players often made rookie mistakes and their game was a bit shaky. They won on Saturday, but then lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 91-83 on Sunday. Their field goal percentage was an ugly .384.
