Merril Hoge ranks top 5 QBs, forgets Peyton Manning

So... Merril Hoge gets paid to "analyze" football? Is this real life?

On ESPN, "analyst" Merril Hoge was apparently asked to list his top 5 quarterbacks. Because apparently someone on some planet somewhere believes that Merril Hoge's opinion is worth putting on television.

Merril's top 5, as you can see in the above picture, includes Joe Flacco, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and Matt Ryan.

Without any question whatsoever, Hoge's top 5 list just flat out sucks.

As Will Brinson of CBS Sports points out, the "only debate on Top 5 QBs is who you're adding behind (some order of) Brady, Brees, Peyton, Rodgers."

Congratulations to Joe Flacco on the nice Super Bowl run, but he's not better than any of those 4 guys. Same with Roethlisberger and Ryan. Sure, they might be among the guys campaigning for that #5 spot, but there's no way they belong on the list ahead of Manning or Brees.

Yet still, this clown Merril Hoge (a former fullback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, in case you're wondering) is somehow paid to talk about football... a sport that he clearly doesn't know all that much about, if this is honestly his top 5 quarterbacks list.

Am I off base here? Let me know who you think should be the top 5. For the record, here's my list:

Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Matt Ryan

Isn't a "list" personal choices? These may be his five and obviously not yours....none of those QB's would be on my list. There's only one on your list I might consider. So there ya go, personal choice.

While I tend to agree that he isn't in the same league as Rodgers, Brees, Brady and Manning, I don't think it's a stretch to think that Flacco should be in the discussion for who is #5 on that list, especially if we are talking about postseason success.  The guy isn't flashy and he certainly doesn't week in and week out put up fantasy football superstar type numbers but he does just win games, especially in the playoffs.  He's also one of two quarterbacks...Joe Montana is the other... to throw 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions in a postseason.

Hoge is an IDIOT! Manning number two for MVP and led the NFL in QB rating! Hes way out there. Flaco isnt in the top ten. Got lucky in the playoffs.

Its all fake.. Its all about marketing.. How good the players are is not at all relevant in  the ESPN environment... Remember these guys interview each other and call it sports news....
