Mesut Ozil pondering over contract extension with Real Madrid
Mesut Ozil has revealed that Real Madrid want him to extend his contract with them. The German midfielder claims he is delighted to learn that the Spanish football giants consider him to be an asset, but he isn’t yet sure whether he wants to commit his future to Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old German attacking midfielder joined Real Madrid from Werder Bremen in 2010 following an impressive spell at the World Cup. The youngster immediately became a hit in his debut season at Real Madrid and soon cemented his place in the first-team.
Since then Mesut Ozil has gone on to become one of the most popular Madridista players in the eyes of Real Madrid fans. The Germany international’s rise in form has led to a spike in interest for him in the transfer market. The likes of mega-rich clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain are keen on breaking their banks in order to acquire Mesut Ozil’s services.
Real Madrid, who just recently turned down a bid on Mesut Ozil from Liverpool, are undoubtedly trying to tie own the midfielder for the long run.
“It’s great that Real Madrid want to renew my contract, it’s a vote of confidence. But I’ve not made any decisions yet because there’s no pressure,” Mesut Ozil tol Bild Sport.
“Of course I can imagine ending my career at Real Madrid, but I can also imagine playing elsewhere too. The world of football moves quickly and every step has to be carefully considered.”
Mesut Ozil also suggested that Real Madrid need to bolster all of their departments, especially since Barcelona is making big signings this summer. Mesut Ozil believes Real Madrid should make an impact in the transfer market and bring big names to Santiago Bernabeu.
“It’s been a good start, we have big targets this season but we’ll only manage to achieve them with great players,” Mesut Ozil added. “If we want to win all three competitions we can’t expect to do it with just 11 players, we have a lot of games during the season and we need competition in the squad.”
Mesut Ozil also commented on the appointment of Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid’s new assistant coach. Mesut Ozil revealed that Zinedine Zidane was his childhood hero, a player often looked up to.
“He was my role model growing up. I saw videos on YouTube and I tried to copy the things he did,” Mesut Ozil said. “He was a great player, and now I can tell you that he is a great person too.”
