Since we already touched on the unique unassisted triple play by Asdrubal Cabrera, we'll go with this unassisted stupid comment from the Mets pitching mound last night. Nelson Figueroa was more concerned with how the Nationals were cheering than the fact he gave up six runs in five innings against one of the worst teams in baseball.
“[The Nats] were cheerleading in the dugout like a bunch of softball girls. I’m a professional, just like anybody else. I take huge offense to that. If that’s what a last-place team needs to do to fire themselves up, so be it. I think you need to show a little bit more class, a little bit more professionalism. They won tonight, but again, in the long run, they are who they are…Even for the manager and the coaching staff to let that stuff carry on, it’s truly unprofessional. That’s why they are who they are.”Maybe you should have lofted up some softball like pitches to the Nats ... that would have solved your problem, Nelson. The Nats may be who they are, but honestly, none of us have any idea who you are. So until you get a winning record again, how about we stop talking. Deal? Good.
Nats 10, Mets 4
Rangers-Mariners Fight 10 Innings Richie Sexson's fight club met again Monday, four days after he took offense to a high pitch that was nowhere near his face. There were a lot of pitching thrown right over the plate last night as evidenced by the six home runs and 25 runs scored. Erik Bedard struggled, allowing six runs in two innings but he didn't get the loss. Eight innings later, Ramon Vazquez hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th. Rangers 12, Mariners 12
Three in the 10th > Triple Play Indians fans were privy to some outstanding pitching and fielding Monday with a day-night doubleheader. Fausto Carmona shut out the Blue Jays in the afternoon and the stunningly red hot Cliff Lee shutout Toronto through nine innings at night. Unfortunately, the Tribe could score any runs. Lee has a 0.67 ERA so far this season, and would easily grab the Cy Young at this early stage. That's without question the most surprising performance through a month and a half. Indians 3, Blue Jays 0 (1) - Blue Jays 3, Indians 0. (2)
Zito Didn't Lose! Zito Didn't Lose! Trust me, Zit0 pitched five scoreless innings last night versus the Astros. Even better, he didn't get the loss. Of course, he didn't win either, but this will go down as his first quality start of the season which makes him worth 1/1,236th of his contract. Astros 7, Giants 3.
