
Armstrong had reportedly came into contact with a illegal booster via Twitter and was immediately suspended from the team. The coaching staff stated it would monitor the situation closely, and after nearly three weeks of doing so, it made the decision to part ways with the DB.
In seven games last season, Armstrong compiled 34 tackles and one interception. He has been highly regarded by many as one of the top safeties in his class, and is projected to be taken in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft by Walter Football.
Redshirt junior A.J. Highsmith was listed as the backup to Armstrong on the Hurricanes' post-spring depth chart.
