Michael Johnson has taken a stand against drug cheats ahead of the Beijing Olympics by handing back one of his gold medals because he feels it is tainted.
The Texas Typhoon, a double world record holder who retired in 2001, has even taken the offending gong out of his trophy cabinet because he does not feel it deserves to be placed alongside his other medals.
American 200metres and 400m star Johnson decided to return the 4x400m relay medal he gained in the Sydney Olympics in 2000 after hearing Antonio Pettigrew admit he had used drugs during those games.
The cynical among us may suggest he would not have been so quick to give the medal back to the International Olympic Committee if it was the only one he was won in his career.
But I prefer to applaud the great man for making a stand and once again showing the drugs cheats that their actions will not be tolerated.
