Blogging the bases from Wednesday's MLB action with more rationality than Michael Kay ....
Yankees 4, Red Sox 3 It's true Michael Kay uttered those words this morning on Mike & Mike. Coming from him that's not much of a surprise, I suppose, but you'd think he'd at least wait until the Yankees were in the playoffs. I can't blame Kay for feeling good this morning, though, 45-year-old Roger Clemens out dueled Cy Young front runner Josh Beckett.
Brewers 6, Cubs 1 They're alive! The desperate gamble to rush Ben Sheets to the mound paid off. Milwaukee is back into 2nd trailing Chicago by 1 1/2. This is what has concerned me from the beginning of contract negotiations with Big Z. I was certain he'd lose his edge once he was guaranteed an exorbitant amount of money. For a guy who relies so heavily on his emotion and attitude ... that's not good. So what's happened since Z's $91+ million dollar deal? No wins in 4 starts and altogether lackluster pitching.
Indians 4, Twins 3 Big C.C. loves to beat Minnesota. Getting the best of Johan Santana, Sabathia bare-handed a hot grounder leading to an early double-play. On top of a 4-run first, that's all the Indians needed.
Royals 5, Tigers 0 Hello? You're in a pennant race and you've got a three game series against KC. This is when you can gain some ground. Assuming of course you show up.
