We're Supposed To Trust Technology, But I'm Still Not Convinced
8/16/08

Here's the 100m butterfly photo finish between Michael Phelps and Milorad Cavic courtesy of the New York Times Olympic Blog.
I have no reason to doubt world class technology, except for the fact that every photo and video I see of the thrilling finish still doesn't convince me that Phelps won. And then there's the fact that no photos were originally released after the event.
Conspiracy theorists still have to get quite creative in convincing us of some wrongdoing, but this one is always fun:
(Conspiracy theorists might point out, as at least one of our readers has, that Michael Phelps is a spokesman for Omega, the official timekeeper of the event, a situation in which the watch company might seem to have a vested interest in a victory by an “Omega ambassador”.
OK, that might be a stretch. A big one... one that unfortunately wasn't present in Cavic's lane last night. What's he thinking today looking at these videos and photos?
