Even though Michael Phelps wears his hat like a complete tool, I still have nothing against the guy.Until now.
Apparently Phelps is in discussions to create a video game empire, based off of him. As in, games that'll have swimming in them. No, seriously, stop laughing.
Phelps wants to follow in the footsteps of John Madden and Michael Phelps, and he's in discussions with
Now, I know exactly what you're thinking. Hitting buttons on my Wii as fast as possible will be a totally awesome game experience! Actually, that probably isn't what you're thinking. You're probably thinking that swimming is boring enough just watching it, why on earth would anyone want to play a video game that consists of swimming? And you're not the only one. People in the video game industry are thinking the exact same thing.
"Swimming - in even a Mario game - is a miserable experience," said Adam Sessler, host of the popular TV show X-Play on the G4 network. "Water is always a bad zone for games in general."
And he's right. No one likes swimming games. I always used to huck my controller against the wall when I was playing Super Mario Bros. and got killed by the %*(&^#$ squid in the water levels. Honestly, I can't think of a single good water video game except for Hydro Thunder. Now, 505 Games is at least semi-aware of this problem, so they say that swimming will only be a part of the games.
"Swimming will be a part of it, but it won't be set in an Olympic pool going back and forth," said Adam Kline, president of 505 Games, the company releasing the series.
"This is a pure action game," he added.
"This is a pure action game," he added.
Pure action game? I'm hoping for Michael Phelps: Shark Hunter or Michael Phelps And Aquaman Battle The Little Mermaid or Michael Phelps Versus Godzilla. Sure, that last one probably lacks swimming, but I know I'd definitely buy it.
Anyway, expect to see whatever crap they turn out to be selling for about $10 at Target in about a year. Which will be about the same time you're saying to yourself "Now who's Michael Phelps again?"
