Michael Phelps is half-way home to his unimaginable feat of winning eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. 4-for-4 after an exhausting 200 meter butterfly, but still good enough to record another world record.
Whether it's the 8300 meters he will swim in total today, or that ridiculous breakfast lineup, I think we're finally seeing Phelps feel the affects of the schedule he's putting himself through.
1:52:03 was the winning time, but it wasn't as large a margin of victory as he expected, nor clearly the time he desired. His reaction couldn't have been any different from the flexing roar of two nights previous. Phelps tossed his swim cap and goggles over his shoulder onto the deck and looked dejected as if he'd lost. The man has some pretty high standards.
This latest win makes Phelps the most decorated Olympian of all-time and more ammo to call him the greatest athlete ever.
His work still isn't done, not even tonight/tomorrow. The Men's 4 x 200 freestyle relay awaits. Hopefully his teammates can lend another hand, fin.
