With 2 medals today, including the silver medal in the 200 meter butterfly and the gold in the 4x200 team freestyle relay, Michael Phelps now holds 19 total career Olympic records.
At the beginning of the day, he was trailing former Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina, who won 18 medals combined over the course of the 1956, 1960, and 1964 games.
Now, Phelps is the record holder, and also holds the record for most gold medals with 15.
Phelps isn't done, either. He still has several events left in which he could potentially medal, including the 100 meter butterfly, 200 meter individual medley, and 4x100 medley relay, all of which Phelps (and his team, in the relay) are favored to come away with some hardware.
Congratulations to Michael Phelps, who has made history once again, and will continue to do so before these Games are over.
