Tonight though Michael Schumacher may be fighting for his life about suffering a skiing accident. He is currently in critical condition with "severe head trauma."

According to a statement from the University Hospital Center of Grenoble, Schumacher required immediate surgery when he arrived, and is now in a coma.

Schumacher began his F1 career in 1991 and won seven World Championship, the first in 1994 with Benetton and the last in 2004 with Ferrari, which was the last of five consecutive titles. He initially retired after the 2006 season, but returned four years later to the Mercedes team. He spend three years there, never winning a race and finishing no better than 8th in the championship.

A terrible day for racing got worse. Andy Granatelli, arguably the most colorful owner in Indy 500 history, died today at the age of 90.
