Michael Vick Has Agreed to Plead Guilty to Dog Fighting Charges
READ MORE:
NFL

Today Michael Vick has decided to plead guilty in order to avoid more federal charges in the case. The crime is punishable by 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Vick's attorney had this to say, "After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick has asked that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding charges pending against him."

"Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter."

Michael Vick has officially lost any credibility he has ever had.

How long until Goodell gives him at least a 1 year suspension?

My guess is Goodell makes a statement tomorrow morning that Vick is indefinitely suspended. He can't really get too specific until he learns about the final sentence. Vick won't be playing in the NFL again would be my guess.

First I think Vick's NFL career is over.  Goodell will suspend him indefinitely for this, in order to gain some leeway, and then eventually ban him for the gambling that was involved in dogfighting.  Secondly, I'm still surprised that Ronde Barber's statement that (this is paraphrased) everyone in the NFL either has been to a dogfight themselves or knows someone who has, hasn't gotten more attention.  I think Vick may only be the begining of this story.

Well I guess this gives them plenty of time to get that real life "Longest Yard" ready. Up to 5 years, all I can say is yikes.

Even if Vick gets a relatively short jail sentence, the main aspect of these charges that will make it very difficult for him to play in the NFL again are the gambling charges, moreso than the actual dogfighting and subsequent treatment of those dogs.

Prediction:  by 2012, if Vick is eligible to return and if Al Davis is still conscious, Vick signs with the Raiders.

Okay, back to serious stuff.  Vick is DONE!  I think Goodell is ready to suspend him indefinitely. You figure with at least 1 year of jail time and at least 1 year of suspension, you will not see Vick until 2010!

I am.  It fits Davis' pattern of hiring older players who aren't welcome with other teams.  Has been going on since before Jim Plunkett and continues today with Gerard Warren.

Hey, Plunkett won us a Super Bowl! At least he got it right one time.

I see Vick playing a year or two of arena ball before getting a shot from the NFL again, if he's allowed to ever come back that is.

I know this is a big deal for the NFL, but is it necessary that all three ESPN channels, CNN, FoxNews, etc ... to have been discussing this for 3 straight hours?

And to think, the Falcons passed up LaDainian Tomlinson to get this guy.   How's that working out lol?

I hate bringing this ordeal up, but don't you think if Kobe would have been convicted/plead guilty in Colorado that it'd be at least this bad?  Granted rape is worse than this, but I think any major superstar (which Vick is, even if his play doesn't validate it) would get this kind of attention if he was getting jailtime.  Although you are right, it probably isn't necessary.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but I really don't think that ESPN needs to show the exact same thing, Trey Wingo (at least it was Trey Wingo 25 mins ago) interviewing Roger Cossack. It is the exact same live feed on ESPN,ESPN2, and ESPNNEWS. Might be on ESPN Classic and ESPNU but I haven't turned there yet.

I think Micheal Vick will play football again. I also believe he will play in the NFL again in no more than 3 years. First and Foremost Even if he's given the 5 year max which he wont. Hey that's why guilty people plead guilty, in hopes of reducing sentence time. Even if the judge or prosecutor give Vick the 5 year max lets see that actually 45 months which is more like 3 years 9 months, minus time for good behavior etc etc We may be looking at 2 to 3 years actual served time. He'll play again. Will Goodell impose a sentence on top of that. Unlikely only because the players union would so strongly oppose it. Do I agree that with the gambling that should add something to the mix. Yes, but they will argue it's like going to Vegas which is perfectly legal. Since it didn't involve major sports or specifically football, the gambling probably wont figure into the punishment.

What a waste of a career

This must be a really lonely week for Michael Vick.  Going home each day to know in a few days he'll be sleeping in a much smaller bed, and learning the importance of soap on a rope.

to those of you who have been defending Vick throughtout this affair- HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE LIED TO? i tried to tell all of you that the Feds dont bring charges unless they've got pretty good solid evidence. Vick pleading guilty is proof of that. at least he may shave a few years off of his sentence. and now- the State of Virginia is gonna pile on charges as well- very nice!! my 3 PUGS are rejoicing as we speak!! LOL

I just purchased my Vick Jersey. Along with the prestigious Pacman Jones jersey and I already have T.O. and Ricky Williams. Best Jerseys are the controversial ones. :D
