Michael Vick has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles for 2-years. The first year of the deal is for $1.6 million with an option for the second year at $5.2 million (which means Vick is only going to be an Eagle for one year). I'm pretty shocked by this because, uh, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But then again, maybe it does...in some way I don't really see.

So how's he going to be used? Wildcat? Receiver? Donovan McNabb's water boy?

Anyway, comment away friends. Mike Vick is back, dog.

The excuses left for McNabb's continual failure to produce a title are now left at none.  Vick, Jackson, and Westbrook are a ridiculous group of game breaking athletes.  A Wildcat formation with those three will be incredibly tough to stop.

potentially smart move: mcnabb is probably nearing or near the end of his career (in philly) and vick would be a great choice to reprise the role after mcnabb is out.

What are the odds that McNabb's superfragile ego completely melts down upon hearing this news?  For any other team in their situation I like this move, but McNabb, uh, doesn't exactly respond well to anything that could be the slightest of slights towards him.

Shocked is right.  Why not spend the money on a Derrick Brooks to replace the out of the year linebacker Stewart Bradley.

Also, McNabb didn't exactly melt down when the Eagles drafted Kolb. He's also been healthy two years in a row, and just received the contract extension and pay raise he wanted. And since when has his ego been particularly fragile? He's dealt with a ton of ridicule in his career. He's not exactly Jay Cutler over here. What makes you think he'll melt down now?

Chances are Donovan gave the move his blessings. Everything is not about a football game or who starts

they already have someone for that, his name is kevin kolb. i hate this move, and not just from the dog fighting, ive never liked vick as a football player. is he exciting, yes, but hes so overrated. He cant throw, without his legs he would have never been in the nfl

He's always been a tad touchy about how he's viewed by Philly fans. Plus he didn't take his benching well last year. Vick might cause him to raise his eyebrows a bit. It's raising my eyebrows as well. Where are they going to use him?

The Wildcat is a gimmick that average teams use to put up a few extra points. It's not like anybody runs the triple option. And Andy Reid hates running the ball, anyway.

Are you all high? You think Vick--someone who can't throw to save his life and cannot read a defense--can come in and replace Donovan McNabb (a Pro Bowl QB) in Andy Reid's incredibly complicated West Coast offense? Or that that's even the reason they brought him in?

For the life of me, I don't understand this. They have Westbrook and just spent a 2nd round pick on LeSean McCoy, who has looked great in camp and against the Pats tonight. And they have McNabb, and Vick is a terrible quarterback. This is only going to add one more distraction to an offseason already full of them.
Wildcat offense- He's not coming in to replace McNabb- Don't be rediculous.

The Wildcat started as a gimmick by an average team to score some points, but it was useful when done right so the league will copy it.  Its only smart to do if you have guys who have multiple abilites and the ability to break open a game.

I like the options he will bring to the Eagles offense.  Like or dislike him, great arm or poor, he's an dominant athlete that will be able to contribute to the Eagles if not by the time he gets reinstated, then very soon after, and I hope it works out for him.

I got to say this....................I know I am going to catch some but I cannot help it. You guys love Andy Reid and the Eagle organization. They have been successful particularly relative to the rest of the league.

How is it that people who do this for a living and get pay say millions to make the decisions are called all these names? Not to be insulting but by people who have nine to fives if they are lucky, do not play sports and have no real idea how the decision makers were thinking when they did a two year not one year deal.

The Eagle organization is not losing any money, these days and that says an awful lot. They were NFC Champs 5 yrs NFC East Champ 4 straight yr and went to the Super Bowl once, in the last 7 yrs. Did not win the Super Bowl, but just look at how many franchises have won the Super Bowl? Less than you would think........14 to be exact and 6 franchises that have NEVER been in the Super Bowl.                  Recent history shows they are at the top of the class.

The Eagles ran the Wildcat very successfully with DeSean Jackson last year.  It is a legitimate play that Vick will be able to execute will amazing ability.  Call it a gimmick play then.

Plus this is not a big stretch from what they ran in Atlanta. I do not think they paid him money to sit on the bench, like Steve Young was saying he can come in an play right away and have an impact. He is not a timing qb....he is a gimmick guy.

Sorry, I just can't be thrilled that we signed a $1.6 million, controversial distraction to play a few snaps a game in the Wildcat formation. It just doesn't make any sense. In my mind, the only way you sign Vick is if you have a need for a player like that, which the Eagles do not.

I mean, what exactly would he have to do to justify the team exercising its $5.2 million option for next year? He'd have to replace McNabb at quarterback or Westbrook/McCoy at running back to earn that kind of money. Not happening.

If the Eagles were smart, most of that is incentive based.  If it is, I suppose see if he has anything, I just don't see him fitting that team.
The option is meaningless.  It was put there in case he ends up being a good QB, at which point he'll be a steal.  He'll be a free agent next year.

The fact that Eagles signed in for Michael Vick is that they know he's worth it and whether they let him play or not it's their preroragative.  So you Vick haters stop it and let the man redeem himself  you know he's a good player.  Am happy for the chance the Eagles gave him so Go  Go Go  Vick show them you're worth more than what the Eagles  gave you.

Surprising move, because I always thought he'd end up in Denver, because they can't REALLY be satisfied with Neckbeard at QB.  He has a great chance to get some time on the field with a special play package and to also unseat Kevin Kolb, because he just isn't that great.

Welcome back to the NFL, Vick.

Whether you condone his off field actions or not, bottom line; Michael Vick is good for the NFL.  He will generate revenue, and he was just beginning to take form as an NFL QB. His future potential immediately for the Eagles and NFL made this a no brainer decision for any franchise.   I'm sure Ryan appreciates the turn of events in ATL.  None the less, Vick will create excitement, which is the life blood of the league.  Here is to an interesting '09-'10 football season.

Who would you rather have a guy fresh from college, a guy who hasn't done anything since he was drafted or a guy who can change any bad play to benefit the team in  victory.

Thats cool your should to feel that way about forgiving him for hat he did he still has to forgive himself truthfully and devote his life to God and still hope that he has a chance to even see the light at the end of the tunnel. Mike Vick has the chance to be the ultimate role model for children.  I know I made some dumb mistakes as child  (none quite like dogfighting, but regardless) and I'm not alone in that. I and other children need someone to look up as the proper way to respond to making those mistakes.  What has Vick done wrong since being released from jail?  His press conference and behavior since then has been flawless (as far as we know).  He is the living embodiment of how to respond to a major mistake and all children need to see how to learn from your mistakes and bad decisions.

Or police officers who engage in felonious assault and sometimes murder only to have the story swept under the rug and they continue to have second chances?  This is a nation of second chances, and sometimes they are given to people who may not deserve them in our opinions.  But as I always say, IT IS WHAT IT IS!

i believe politicians should pull their time and then flip burgers. this is not just about a foot ball player or a million dollar paycheck, it is about proving that you are who you say you are. vick has not . he needs to earn the right to go back to his life as it was. If it was you or me we would have to start over mopping the floor at mcdonalds and you know that i am right.

Okay you say he needs to earn the right to go back to his life as it was (which he will NEVER have it that good again), how do you suggest he earn the right? He's lost his millions, he's spoken out against dogfighting and not associating with the wrong people.  Is there more that he can do to earn his way back in? I would love to hear your answer. And thank you for enlightened, intelligent debate lorihensley, not just unbridled hatred and lame dog jokes.

i agree he will probly never have it that good again and he did lose his money but that is because of his choices. as far as the wrong people - every one is associated with atleast one person that would fit that label. you need to know where to draw that line. if that person is a shop lifter dont go into stores with them .  earning the right back should start with proving that he can be trusted to do the right thing , make the right choices. i feel he should stay out of the spot light till he can have a chance to regroup in his real life , not the nfl life. that is just more opportunities to miss the exit when rush hour hits.

Very good point.  It's hard for a lot of guys to let their old friends go once they make it.  If they're a bad influence on you, you should stay far away from them, because they'll become "dreamkillers'.  I agree that he should get his LIFE back in order, and he has said that in interviews and in speaking to children that his LIFE is the most important thing, not his NFL career.  I think he can possibly do both with the mentoring and leadership of Tony Dungy, who is not only respected as a coach, but as a person, leader, and minister (if you have not read "Quiet Strength" you should it is awesome!).  And say what you want about D-McNabb "choking" in big games, but he is a great leader and he has had a scandal free career. Vick is now associating with strong positive people, so hopefully it works out for him this time.

So who won the t-shirt in the Michael Vick poll? I am glad that he is back, and glad the Eagles claimed him. The Bengals would not give enough to add him to their elite prisoner team. Although I am sure that the Bengals would have if they did not have to bail out the last 4 guys they bailed out.

With who Del Hommes? Steve Smith is already questionable with injuries, you got a so/so defenese, and the only thing you have are 2 rb that split the rush.  Giants over rated? They won the Superbowl.  What Superbowl the Panthers won?  I do not like the Cowboys or Redskins, but to smash mouth teams in the NFC East when they have won titles is very lame on your part.  When your team has yet to proven anything.  I am not even an Eagles fan and can care less that they did get Vick but if he has a 2nd chance and is willing to prove he can take that 2nd chance then why not.  I do not like what he did but if he learned then we all should give him that and lets see what will happen.  By the way the "Over rated Manning" has a Superbowl ring, I guess "No Rated" Del Hommes is still digging in the CrackerJack box for his.

Get over it. Michael Vick is back. It's really up to Michael to make a go of this with Philadelphia. I'm happy for him. Michael never should have been convicted in the first place especially when pictures and videos are shown of deer, turkeys, ducks and other animals walking around with arrows stuck in them. A picture was shown recently of a wild turkey with an arrow protruding from it's neck; another picture was shown of a deer with an arrow sticking from its stomach. Now you make sense of that.

Who are you to tell anybody on this site to shut up? You make half baked comments and get this through you. This season is going to be a bust for the Panthers with a mediocre offense.  Your defense is still relying on who? And exactly who is Del Hommes throwing to?  Steve Smith is already a gimp and the season hasn't even started.  Worry about your own team and stop whining about an NFC east team any of them when they have shown up to the grand stage and done the job.

Lets examine the "sucking" shall we? The Panthers in the last two seasons have won nothing of relevance.  The Eagles got within a game of the Super Bowl last season, and the season before that, the overrated Giants won the Super Bowl. Sounds like the Panthers SUCK.

Vick has one of the strongest arms in league history and has thrown a ball 78 yards on the fly on multiple occasions, however his decision making has been uneven at best, both on and off the field.  However if he has truly matured he is a potential DC's nightmare, even as a decoy he can alter a game, if he is on the wing, under center, in the slot, he can run, pitch it back to McNabb, throw it deep, he will open things for the other play makers.

I do not condone what VIck has done. I am a pet owner myself, but I seen people who did far worst get much less.  Lets see how he is and if he found what he did was wrong.  If he has learned from what he did fine, great in fact more power to him.  I am not an Eagles fan and never will be.   When this issue with Vick first came out a few years back of course I was angry at him and what he did, it was vile and disgusting, and wht he did  was unexcuseable.  But.. and that is but.. if he has learned then I say let us not all jump and bash him up.  We don't know what his status is going to be anyways it has been a few years.  If he goes back to what he did then by all means lash out as much as you want.  But if he rehabilitated himself then good for him.  Sometimes one has to hit rockbottom to lift himself back up.

Carolina 17
New York 24
The Panthers would not beat the Giants and even with the 2nd rb Bradshaw and 3rd rb Ware with tds.  Over rated? They earned their stripes..  Turnovers? 5 for Carolina.  You are way too much of a homer admit it.  With your own division between Atlanta and NO and perhaps TB you got your own problems with your own division.   The Giants are not over rated .. they proven..but you sound medicated.  And I look forward for the Giants and Eagles to meet now we got 2 games regular season.

its preseason only the first game, the giants are overrated without their #1 receiver they couldnt do antthing last season...their defense carried them.and eli manning is way overrated the year they won the superbowl it wasnt eli that won the game it was their defense.if they did not have that defense eli wouldnt of kept up with the pats

I love the fact that a team is taking a chance on him. Was he needed in Philly specifically...??? I don't know. But look, I believe that he is an awsome quarterback; a talented athlete and prior to the dog fighting incident he had no real issues. He has paid his debt to society and that should be it. People are up and arms about him returning to the NFL but why? I love animals too but, this is ridiculous. I am happy that someone is giving him a break.

Michael Vicks is no more over rated than any other pro athlete. Hell you probably can't get on the field and do  a 1/3 of what they do but so quick to judge. If you don't like the decision that was made put down your beer take off your shirt and find something else to spend your money on. (POINT BLANK)

Everyone is so torn about what Vick did. But no one is stressing the fact that a high polical official has recently done the same or worst she killed the dog. No word from no one, no PITA, no protesters, no HATE mobs. Why;  well lets see is she white? is she a high official? can she cover it up? can she put a hit on anyone who has a problem? well if you answered YES to all or half the questions. (THERE YOU GO!!!)
My point is people conduct more crimes than that and receive little or no punishment. I myself love dogs, it's sad what he did but he's payed his debt. We are the land of the free but we let sex affenders, terrorist, bad political officials, and the list goes on and on get away with too much. Focus on the things that matter the most. Help find some of these missing children, help rebuild our abused kids and show them that we care more about them than a DAMN dog fight.

I'm sorry, I just can't  be excited about signing a $1.6 million controversial distraction to play a few snaps a game in a gimmick formation. It just doesn't make any sense. In my mind, the only way you sign Vick is if your team has a need for a guy like that, which the Eagles don't.

I mean, what would he have to do for us to exercise that $5.2 million option for next year? Probably replace McNabb at quarterback or Westbrook/McCoy at running back. Not happening.
Easy now.  They haven't signed Vick to that 5.6 million dollar option yet.  And I agree with you that he isn't in Philly to replace McNabb or Westbrook (though they are both getting up in years for their respective positions).  But think about this and see if you still disagree with the move.

If Vick even shows flashes of brilliance this year, which you can't deny there is a very good chance of, they will be able to dangle his "cheap" contract out to QB challenged teams, and get no less than a first round draft pick in return.  Come on man!  1.6 mil is what barely more than they pay 34 year old kicker, David Akers.  You're really telling me that that he's not worth more on the open market than Akers???!!

Trust he's well worth far more than Akers. This their way of keeping him down. This is what society does. They prey on people failures and short comings. If he hadn't been convicted of animal cruelty they wouldn't be throwing this change at him. I personal wouldn't have taken it. Someone else would have picked him p. I know he's trying to rise above his bankruptcy and his criminal background. They needed him and wanted him for his sportmanship and he should have been paid according to that not his crime. The only thing Vick deserves in the way of a second chance is to work a 40 hour week as construction worker, roofer, ditch digger, bus driver, etc. like most guys work. Cept he went to the pro bowl three times.  He's got a 57% career win percentage; a career 7.3 yds per carry, and in 2006, he passed for 20 TDs and rushed for over 1,000 yds.  And he did all that with a horrible Offensive Line in Atlanta.  I wouldn't call that not doing much. You really don't know a f-ing thing about a f-ing thing do you?  Look, we've all heard quite enough from you about how the Eagles and McNabb and Vick suck.  We get it.  You don't like them, but your flat wrong in 99.99% of your statements.

I know I speak for many on the Q when I tell you to please, please, please follow these steps (I'll make it easy for you cause I know your "special"):

STEP 1: Pick up your keyboard (that's the thingy with the letters on it that you use to display your idiotic opinions)

STEP 2: Apply lighter fluid (you've probably got plenty left over from your last Meth cook)

STEP 3: Strike match or lighter (you obviously smoke by the look of your yellow teeth so there should be one laying around somewhere)

STEP 4: Place match on keyboard (self explanatory)

STEP 5: Inhale deeply (you'll probably get as much out of the experience as we get out of your retarded posts)

Are you serious!?  In your bible did god also give Adam the right to make the animals aggressive and trat them like prisoners just to have them fight eachother for his profit, and then kill them if they weren't vicious enough?  Tell me where it says that in your Bible, I would like to know.

Hell yeah!!!!!!!!! I'm glad they picked up Vick. He is a talented player. Yes he made some bad choices but damn he can throw the ball and run it. And he can take a HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Vick, make yo presence felt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably true. I think the Browns should forfeit the season and stop toying with our hearts. Im willing to bet we still end up with a better record then Detroit.

God forgives and we should also forgive Michael Vick. I am an animal lover and feel bad but just maybe he learned his lesson and will contribute now. He did pay his dues in prison.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SET THEIR OWN RULES AS TO WHO THEY HIRE AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THEIR BACKGROUNDS SO WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH FOOTBALL. YOU NEED NOT BE A ROCKET SCIENTIST, JUST GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO.

You need not be a rocket scientist to work for the federal government either and there are  many other employers who will not hire someone with a criminal record. Playing in the NFL is entertaining the public and a lot of the public don't want to be entertained by him no matter how good he is.

It's all about choices. I choose to be entertained by the Q, therefore I log on and get involved. Likewise, the day I decide I'm no longer interested in being entertained by the Q, I will no longer sign on. It's the same with the NFL. If you choose not to be entertained(for whatever the reason), then do not tune in. Also, the current policy of the NFL is one that allows for hire/rehire of convicted felons who have served their time.

It's gonna be hard for Donovan McNabb to concentrate when he knows that if he screws up, Michael Vick is more than wanting his job.

Let it go people. M. Vick is just like the rest of us, (HUMAN). Everyone is trying to just bury Vick, but the sports writers and people so appalled at M. Vick are'nt talking about a movie called Major Payne. This movie is about a white man who has to save his family through dog figthing. The movie was made in 1996, I believe.Go figure

Look all I'm saying is their are worse crimes out their than dog fighting and M. Vick has paid his dues, leave the man along and let him play.  When the eagles win because of his input then how many people are going to be on the band wagon.  Nice pick McNabb.  Good looking out!
