Also, the current policy of the NFL is one that allows for hire/rehire of convicted felons who have served their time.

You need not be a rocket scientist to work for the federal government either and there are  many other employers who will not hire someone with a criminal record. Playing in the NFL is entertaining the public and a lot of the public don't want to be entertained by him no matter how good he is.

Everyone is so torn about what Vick did. But no one is stressing the fact that a high polical official has recently done the same or worst she killed the dog. No word from no one, no PITA, no protesters, no HATE mobs. Very good point.  It's hard for a lot of guys to let their old friends go once they make it.  If they're a bad influence on you, you should stay far away from them, because they'll become "dreamkillers'.  I agree that he should get his LIFE back in order, and he has said that in interviews and in speaking to children that his LIFE is the most important thing, not his NFL career.  I think he can possibly do both with the mentoring and leadership of Tony Dungy, who is not only respected as a coach, but as a person, leader, and minister (if you have not read "Quiet Strength" you should it is awesome!).  And say what you want about D-McNabb "choking" in big games, but he is a great leader and he has had a scandal free career. Vick is now associating with strong positive people, so hopefully it works out for him this time.

i believe politicians should pull their time and then flip burgers. this is not just about a foot ball player or a million dollar paycheck, it is about proving that you are who you say you are. vick has not . he needs to earn the right to go back to his life as it was. If it was you or me we would have to start over mopping the floor at mcdonalds and you know that i am right.

What about all of the politicians who engage in felonious behavior only to be rewarded by being elected to higher offices? Or police officers who engage in felonious assault and sometimes murder only to have the story swept under the rug and they continue to have second chances?  This is a nation of second chances, and sometimes they are given to people who may not deserve them in our opinions.  But as I always say, IT IS WHAT IT IS!

i am amazed that he was signed by anyone. the truth of it all is that if it was you or me that did this crime we would not be able to walk out of prison and just fall back into our lives . we would have to prove ourselves over and over again. as far as what he did for the league - come on - he was shining red and blue lights instead of the spot light on the league. he should have to prove he is a better person .

Mike Vick has the chance to be the ultimate role model for children.  I know I made some dumb mistakes as child  (none quite like dogfighting, but regardless) and I'm not alone in that. I and other children need someone to look up as the proper way to respond to making those mistakes.  What has Vick done wrong since being released from jail?  His press conference and behavior since then has been flawless (as far as we know).  He is the living embodiment of how to respond to a major mistake and all children need to see how to learn from your mistakes and bad decisions.

He should have to do like the rest of the felons work a real job not be rewarded for his bad mistake. You can't get a government gob with a felony so why should he get a million dollar job. Is it fair to guys who get cut to make a spot for the jail bird when they work so hard to make that team.

Again everyone wants to keep talking about he killed dogs and he should have been banned forever. How many people think Leonard Little should be banned forever? He killed a woman.  Stallworth killed a man. Yet I saw no "F*** Stallworth" or  "F*** Leonard Little" posts on the Q.  I admit, Vick did something foolish and it cost him literally millions of dollars and two years of his life he can never get back.  But my theory is that some people are just using this to fuel their pre-existing hatred of Michael Vick.  To all of the people who say "He shouldn't get a second chance"  and "Ban him forever", HOW MANY SECOND CHANCES HAVE YOU HAD GIVEN TO YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE?

But who are you going to look for to help your team next year when the player you thought or put all of your hopes into doesn't pan out the way you had hoped for and your team still needs a good quality quarterback. Who would you rather have a guy fresh from college, a guy who hasn't done anything since he was drafted or a guy who can change any bad play to benefit the team in  victory.

Whether you condone his off field actions or not, bottom line; Michael Vick is good for the NFL.  He will generate revenue, and he was just beginning to take form as an NFL QB. His future potential immediately for the Eagles and NFL made this a no brainer decision for any franchise.   I'm sure Ryan appreciates the turn of events in ATL.  None the less, Vick will create excitement, which is the life blood of the league.  Here is to an interesting '09-'10 football season.

I'm tired of hearing about giving Vick a "second chance" All the dogs this guy joyfully murdered didn't get a second chance. Vick is a total douchebag, and I hope the Eagles and their fans realize that Michael Vick is now a major representative of the Eagles organization. There is also going to be a massive backlash from fans and rivals, also major distractions year round. I have always hated the Eagles and loved the Steelers....the Eagles are like the ugly red headed step child everyone hates, and they keep making it worse for themselves.

Surprising move, because I always thought he'd end up in Denver, because they can't REALLY be satisfied with Neckbeard at QB.  He has a great chance to get some time on the field with a special play package and to also unseat Kevin Kolb, because he just isn't that great.

 Vick also add t make them a dangerous wildcat formation team. Hope the fans will give him a fair chance to prove himself.

 Great move by Philly with signing Michael Vick. This puts him behind a similar but better pocket QB in McNabb with a 1 year possible resign if he works out for the team and its staff. 

Most people can't relate to the kinds of mistakes Michael Vick made, but we're all limited in some way.  Here's hoping this story has a happy ending.  Don't mess it up, Mike.

I agree with you 100%. My condolences to you on your loses. Unfortunately, we are swimming upstream on this. Hardly any sports fans actually care about what players do off the field. I don't hate Vick, because I don't know him personally. I do hate the fact that he disrespected the game, his fans, and himself by throwing away his reputation and the wellbeing of his team without a second thought. He served his time and deserves a second chance at making something of himself, but he doesn't deserve this shot in the NFL.

 At Least he didnt sign with a team who has any thing to do with a dog (The browns ETC.) 

Being out of professional football for so long means that Vick will need time to readjust.  I see this move as nothing more than just an insurance policy for McNabb.

I can't believe that people are still hating? The bottom line is, Vick knows how to do two things:
1. Run a dogfighting ring
2. Play football

Why the hell are you getting so ticked off that Vick is seeking legal employment? You try to prevent him from playing football and see how quickly he might revert to his dog-fighting ways. You need to move on with your life and stop being leeches!

The fact that Eagles signed in for Michael Vick is that they know he's worth it and whether they let him play or not it's their preroragative.  So you Vick haters stop it and let the man redeem himself  you know he's a good player.  Am happy for the chance the Eagles gave him so Go  Go Go  Vick show them you're worth more than what the Eagles  gave you.

Ex-Felons don't have to make millions of dollars in the NFL to be productive members of society; Vick shouldn't have been allowed back, and I don't care what anyone says. He slaughtered helpless and innocent living organisms, and all he has to do to make millions again is just sit in a jail for a couple of years? It's just my opinion and I'm sorry for being so passionate and aggressive about it, but it's just so horribly wrong to me.

I actually have a lot to say, but I'll condense it. I'm a young man, and I've lost almost everything in my life the last year, including my home to a fire, my father to that fire, and my brother to Iraq. The one thing that I felt as though I had left in this world was the NFL and my love for the Eagles. But I hated Vick as a player, and, as someone who loves dogs more than himself, as a human being. Most of the great moments in my youth have been watching the Eagles with my dad, but now, due to my hate for Vick on so many levels, I feel as though he's ruined that; I am no longer an Eagles fan because of Vick and it's killing me.
Not trying to start anything with all of this, by the way, I'm just trying to give the perspective of a fan that has been deeply hurt by this.

The option is meaningless.  It was put there in case he ends up being a good QB, at which point he'll be a steal.  He'll be a free agent next year.

As an Eagles fan, I'm not really sure what to think about this.  As a dog lover, I'm pretty sure what I should be thinking about this.

What a great example the N.F.L. is setting for our youth by letting felon losers like M.Vick  to be reinstated. Next is Stallworth he killed a guy when drunk driving and got only 24 days in jail an in a year he gets back in the N.F.L. .
I don't care how great you where you should never get your job back. Why don't we just go to the prisons and hire some killers,thiefs and drug dealers to play they can run fast too. Hey why don't baseball reinstate Pete Rose his was small comepared to those dumbos.

That's a lot of money to put in a guy who was always a horrid passer, and while he was a great athlete, I don't think that justifies 1.6 million and the HUGE option.

The Eagles ran the Wildcat very successfully with DeSean Jackson last year.  It is a legitimate play that Vick will be able to execute will amazing ability.  Call it a gimmick play then.

I like the options he will bring to the Eagles offense.  Like or dislike him, great arm or poor, he's an dominant athlete that will be able to contribute to the Eagles if not by the time he gets reinstated, then very soon after, and I hope it works out for him.

The Wildcat started as a gimmick by an average team to score some points, but it was useful when done right so the league will copy it.  Its only smart to do if you have guys who have multiple abilites and the ability to break open a game.

Wildcat offense- He's not coming in to replace McNabb- Don't be rediculous.

The Wildcat is a gimmick that average teams use to put up a few extra points. It's not like anybody runs the triple option. And Andy Reid hates running the ball, anyway.

He's always been a tad touchy about how he's viewed by Philly fans. Plus he didn't take his benching well last year. Vick might cause him to raise his eyebrows a bit. It's raising my eyebrows as well. Where are they going to use him?

I love my QB McNabb and he has shown a little maturity over the years. I think he will respond well.                  E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!!!

Also, McNabb didn't exactly melt down when the Eagles drafted Kolb. He's also been healthy two years in a row, and just received the contract extension and pay raise he wanted. And since when has his ego been particularly fragile? He's dealt with a ton of ridicule in his career. He's not exactly Jay Cutler over here. What makes you think he'll melt down now?

Are you all high? You think Vick--someone who can't throw to save his life and cannot read a defense--can come in and replace Donovan McNabb (a Pro Bowl QB) in Andy Reid's incredibly complicated West Coast offense? Or that that's even the reason they brought him in?

For the life of me, I don't understand this. They have Westbrook and just spent a 2nd round pick on LeSean McCoy, who has looked great in camp and against the Pats tonight. And they have McNabb, and Vick is a terrible quarterback. This is only going to add one more distraction to an offseason already full of them.

What are the odds that McNabb's superfragile ego completely melts down upon hearing this news?  For any other team in their situation I like this move, but McNabb, uh, doesn't exactly respond well to anything that could be the slightest of slights towards him.

potentially smart move: mcnabb is probably nearing or near the end of his career (in philly) and vick would be a great choice to reprise the role after mcnabb is out.
