The impressive news is that Michelle Wie is not in last place and in contention to make the cut after the first round of the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in Lake Tahoe. Wie is in 77th place after firing at 1-over 73 at the Montreux Golf and Country Club. A cut is a cut on the PGA tour, but it's worth noting this isn't the most impressive field the PGA has ever fielded. Likely a big reason for Wie and family choosing this event. Nicholas Thompson is the best player (accordint to FedEx Points) in the event. I bet you didn't know he hailed from the US.
Another top player in the Reno-Tahoe Open is Jay Williamson. Why is this relevant? Well, like me, he called Wie's competing in this event a "joke." Luckily, I don't have to go out and compete against Michelle, Jay does, and after this first round he's one shot behind the joke.
Wie will need to shoot even par today, most likely, to make the cut. As you can imagine, we'll be tracking. As the pressure mounts today, I doubt it will happen.
