Three Wolverines Suspended for Outback Bowl
Starting cornerback J.T. Floyd and punter Will Hagerup, along with reserve linebacker Brandin Hawthorne, will not make the trip to Tampa, Florida for the New Year’s game against South Carolina after violating team rules.
"It is an honor to play football for the University of Michigan and we have high standards and expectations for everyone that represents our program," Hoke said in a statement. "These young men used poor judgment in each circumstance, and these suspensions are teaching moments for our team."
Hagerup, a junior, was named the Big Ten's punter of the year this season, averaging 45 yards a punt. This is the third time he’s been suspended since joining the Wolverines in 2010 and could be in serious jeopardy of being kicked off the team.
Floyd – who finished with 28 solo tackles this season – and Hawthorne are both seniors, so their final collegiate game was a 26-21 loss to Ohio State.
That’s got to be a bitter way to end things.
