Now that we've entered March, your daily roundup of college hoops ...
Sparty On Tom Izzo said he wanted to run more this season, but apparently not until March. Michigan State scored more points in the first half than they had in four complete games this season by shooting 78% and 9 of 10 from three-point range. Indiana now takes a step back from Wisconsin and Purdue in the Big Ten race. What does this mean for the Spartans? Maybe (hopefully) they're putting everything together in time for another run. The key is, they have to run like they did on Sunday to have any chance against the top tier teams. Michigan State 103, Indiana 74
Apparently Kirk Walters was option No. 6 Arizona got a huge break with Kevin Love tipping a Jerryd Bayless miss free throw back out of bounds, giving the Wildcats another chance down 66-68. Walter took the inbounds pass and was left completely wide open with his best options being either a dunk or layup. Instead he never turned around and gave the ball to Bayless for an off balance three. Arizona could have really used a win to officially secure a bid, but with the #1 overall strength of schedule they should sneak in anyway. UCLA 68, Arizona 66
Tennessee Turnovers Kentucky shocked everyone by from a big early deficit to make a game of it against the Vols. No Patrick Patterson figured to be a gimme win for Bruce Pearl. Not so much. Without way too many turnovers in the final three minutes UK could be looking at tourney berth. Tennessee 63, Kentucky 60
Michigan State is actually my sleeper team for the tourney, and that was before the Indiana win. The talent is there, the consistency is not, but if they get hot, they could go a long way in the tourney.
