Michigan State vs. LIU Brooklyn [Game info and open thread]
About Michigan State:
The Spartans (27-7) earned a No. 1 seed by sharing the Big Ten regular season title and winning the conference tournament. As usual Tom Izzo's squad played a difficult non-conference schedule--they opened the season with back-to-back losses to North Carolina and Duke, but also beat Florida State, Gonzaga and Lehigh. After those two losses to open the season, Michigan State got hot, winning 15 straight games. They are led by versatile senior forward Draymond Green, who leads the team in scoring (16.1 per game) rebounding (10.4 per game) and is second on the team in assists (3.6 per game). Izzo is one of the best NCAA Tournament coaches in the country, so expect the Spartans to be very dangerous.
About LIU Brooklyn:
The Blackbirds (25-8) were the regular season and tournament champions of the Northeast Conference. They are a high-scoring team, averaging 81.9 points a game, which is good for third nationally. While they did play a soft schedule, LIU Brooklyn does have a bonafide star in 6-foot-7 junior forward Julian Boyd, who averages 17.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
