Michigan fans have a right to be upset, but not solely at Rich Rodriguez. Yeah they have lost the turn over battle in almost every game, and it has seemed that the team has quite on Rodriguez in almost every game. This I believe lies on the coaching staff. Where is the discipline. A well disciplined team will not give up the ball 3-4-5 times during the game and a well disciplined team will not quite no matter how bad it gets on the field.
What is the other reason Wolverine fans should be upset? How about Lloyd Carr. That's right, the National Championship winning coach, the coach that has recruited the likes of Chad Henne, Mike Hart, Jake Long. Just to name a few in recent years. It has seemed Michigan has had a steady stream of very good defensive player year, after year, after year. Were has the offensive recruiting gone ever sense the days of Henne, Hart and Long? If you look at Michigan' offensive roster in '08, over half of the team is either So./Fr. Yes the O-line 4 out of 5 of the are Jr./Sr.(the only Fr. at Center) and Brandon Minor (RB), Greg Mathews (WR) returning to give some sort of leadership. But that it, no one else has played college ball or at least limited college ball.
I'm am very reluctant to say this, but here it goes anyway. I believe Lloyd Carr knew what he was doing when he retired. He knew the offense was going to be slim pickings. And he go out before the going got touch. Now I think Lloyd Carr is a great coach, don't get me wrong there. I would take him back in a heartbeat at Michigan. But with an offense like that I don't think any coach could make it work. Yeah, Rodriguez could drop the spread offense and attempt to salvage something out of this season. But what would that tell the team? Would Rodriguez be quitting on the team? I think he should stay the coarse. Keep the spread. That is what they are going to be using next year and year after that, until he leaves the University of Michigan. I keep looking at teams like Alabama(6-0), Michigan St.(5-1) and even Minnesota(5-1). It wasn't that long ago that they were not that good. Once their coaches got the players they needed to run their offenses and defenses they started winning again.
Wolverine fans need to be patient over the next few years until Coach Rodriguez gets the players he needs to have to run his style of play on both sides of the ball. We all know it willnot be this year and it probably will not be next. But at least he has a young group of players to start with.
HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!!! and GO BLUE!!!
