Blog Photo - Miikka Kiprusoff Retires, as anticipatedAs a Flames' fan, I've watched Miikka Kiprusoff between the pipes for the past ten years.  I watched him win the Vezina Trophy in 2006 when he had a 2.07 goals against average.  I watched him take the Flames to the Stanley Cup Finals that year.  I watched him and cheered for him, and last year when I heard rumblings that it would be his last, I came close to tears.  He was very clear that he did not want to be traded, only wishing to finish his NHL career as a member of the Calgary Flames.

Kiprusoff did not announce his retirement at the end of the year, however, today he and the Calgary Flames organization made it official.  Miikka Kiprusoff will not return to NHL Hockey for the 2013-14 season.

Kipper will close out his career ranking 29th with 319 wins.  He has 44 career shutouts, had seven seasons with 30 or more wins, and three seasons with 40 or more wins.

He will be missed by Calgary Flames fans everywhere.
