I missed this on Friday night, but I figure it's never too late to post video of two coaches yelling at each other.
The situation for those who also missed it: Suns coach Mike D'Antoni called a timeout with 4:45 left, his team trailing by 30. Immediately after that, Phil Jackson called a timeout, apparently taking some offense to the Suns timeout which makes no sense. D'Antoni wasn't amused and reminded Phil that they play 3 more times this year ... and then I'm sure you can read the Zen Master's lips from there.
Afterwards Jackson said:
"Yeah, I'm sure he's upset about the game and everything else, but when you have an obligatory timeout coming in a minute, you might as well get rid of both of them," Jackson said. "It's like mercy killing."D'Antoni wasn't amused and we should all mark Dec 25th on the Calendar. Oh, wait. It probably is anyway, but make some room for basketball late in the afternoon:
Will Jackson try to clear up any misunderstandings with D'Antoni before their Dec. 25 game at Staples Center? "No. He has to figure that out on his own."
Was D'Antoni a little too emotional? "Yeah, well, it gave me a better understanding, perhaps, of him."
And that was? "Well, that his immediate response is to think it was about him and not about his team."
"So now, we're looking around like idiots," he said. "We were 30 down. We're already idiots. Now, we really look like idiots. It's something I thought he could have avoided. He chose to do that, and that's fine.D'Antoni might have been a little too emotional, but there was no need to the subsequent timeout by Phil. Prediction: Suns roll up 140 on LA next meeting.
"Hopefully, we'll have the same opportunity to give it back to him. Plus, if he wants to play mind games with us . . . I don't even have a mind, so what's the difference? That's not going to work."
