Mike Vick.. Dog Killer..

Leonard Little… Wife and Mother  Killer… Leonard Little killed a woman, Susan Gutweiler, while driving drunk in 1998. He pled guilty to MANslaughter, Gutweiler was a wife and mother of one. Leonard Little was suspended for 8 games, served a 90 day jail sentence and performed 1000 hours of community service. I won’t even get into “performing” community service..  Leonard must not have learned his lesson as he was cited for Driving While Intoxicated in April 2004.
He still plays for the St. Louis Rams as of 2008 in relative anonymity.  He got a second chance.  And a third...

I am a dog owner and a dog lover, I think what Mike Vick was cruel and probably not so unusal..  But the way people talk about him, write about him, and report on him..  It is ridiculous..  Not that he does not deserve all that is written and said of him, God knows he did wrong..

But what, I ask...  What is this world coming to when a guy who treats animals like garbage is somehow a worse guy than a confessed murderer..

Lawrence Phillips:  Assault and battery on girlfriends, driving his car over a bunch of teenagers, and finally serving a ten year jail sentence for his crimes..
Senator Ted Kennedy:  Killer..  Albeit a long time ago..

I could probably list 100 names off of the top of my head and the crimes they have committed, yet even to me the name Mike Vick..  Dog Killer rings out for some reason..
If this sounds as though I waver in my feelings toward the whole thing then you are right..  But still..  I feel people lump Michael Vick into the John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy mold..  And I do not think that is fair..

He'll get his second chance, and hopefully he'll redeem himself in some way.  In the meantime I think those folks from P.E.T.A. need to chill out.

The reason why you can lump them into the same group is because Vick didn't accidentally kill a dog, he ran a dog fighting ring that was routinely exchanging hundreds of thousands of dollars,  and executed dogs that performed poorly by drowning and electrocution. He didn't leave a bar drunk, he bought a house and turned it into a huge dogfighting pit.

Point taken..  And I agree..  In writing that I just really want to know why the people who kill people don't stay in the news..  People who repeatedly break the law..  They are routinely left to continue their careers when the madness dies down.  I dislike Michael Vick..  I despise what he did to those dogs..  But understand what I'm saying..  Leaving a bar drunk is no excuse for killing another human being..  I just want there to be more attention paid to those who do things to people..  I want there to be as much or more accountability for those who do things to people..  Most athletes have that sense of invincibility where they can do anything and be slapped on the wrist for it..  Mike Vick got more for this than those who have affected human life..  This is the reason, and the only reason I have an issue with the way everything has gone down.  It seems to me that human life just isn't as important..
