Some of you are probably familiar with the Miller Lite sign that adorns one of the rooftops across from the right field bleachers. It rotates for each home series, and even rotates during the offseason. (I've been told that I'm a little obsessed with the advertisements, which is probably accurate. When asked what my dream job was in a job interview several years ago, I answered "the guy in charge of the Miller Lite sign at Wrigley." True story, and I was actually offered the job. Well, not THAT job.)
Well, the sign for the Brewers series last weekend read - “We Prefer a Pennant Race to a Sausage Race.” Apparently, some sensetive Brewers weren't amused. From Biz of Baseball via 620 WTMJ:
Miller Spokesman Julian Green tells Newsradio 620 WTMJ, "what it was intended to do was create some chatter." It has. Green says, "There are fans who may have looked at the sign and took it the wrong way, but we are behind the Brewers. I think what we all agree on is that the Brewers have a fantastic chance of going all the way and we support that."
Some fans clearly have taken the sign to mean something else. One fan emailed Newsradio 620 WTMJ's John Jagler to say, "My son and I saw the Miller Lite billboard sign on TV yesterday and we were immediately enraged - I am a loyal Miller Lite drinker, but seriously rethinking that…. I am emailing Miller today!"
That's unfortunate. I feel bad for that guy's kid already.
