Bush, used mostly as a special teams player and situational running back during his final years in New Orleans, revitalized his career with the Dolphins, playing in all but one game during his two seasons in Miami while racking up 15 touchdowns and an impressive 4.7 yards per carry as the lead back.
The Dolphins, however, are not worried about whether Bush will be with the team next year. They have another running back who they think is even better than Bush, and will come at a cheaper price. No, not Daniel Thomas...
Former Miami Hurricane Lamar Miller, a fourth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2012, is both bigger and faster than Bush. The Dolphins would reportedly "be fine" with using Miller as the lead back. He was effective in limited action this season, averaging 4.9 yards per carry on his 51 attempts. He's also more of a "straight to the hole" type runner that will be a better fit in head coach Joe Philbin's offensive scheme.
If the Dolphins do roll with Miller as the leader in the backfield, Daniel Thomas will factor in quite a bit as the backup, and the Dolphins would be expected to sign another back to add depth.
Based on his solid performance as a rookie and his college highlights, Miller could end up being a very solid back for the Dolphins next year. From what I've seen of him, he has great burst and explosiveness, which I think might be the most important quality of a running back. If the Dolphins are truly content with leaning on Miller in 2013, he could be a great value pick in fantasy drafts - it's never too early to talk about fantasy drafts.
