It's a good thing there isn't any form of 'subjective' judging that takes place in beach volleyball. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are clearly the best there is, and best there ever was in the sport, and their effort will result in the appropriate accomplishment: Olympic gold.
In defeating the Brazilian team of Renata Ribeiro and Talita Antunes 21-12, 21-14, May-Treanor and Walsh won their 107th consecutive match. They will now face Tian Jia and Wang Jie of China in the gold medal match.
107 consecutive wins. I don't need to tell you this, but that's a lot.
I've heard some talk radio types diminish the value of beach volleyball as an Olympic sport. There's a good chance those have never played, instead better suited for challenges such as race walking or the trampoline.
May-Treanor and Walsh haven't had an off day in years. Even Joe Dimaggio had an off day. Hopefully you're as impressed as I am for a team of Americans who deserve to be thought of in the next breath after Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps and Michael Phelps.
And if you're one of those who probably won't remember this remarkable accomplishment after this weekend, hopefully you can at least remember this.
