The Los Angeles Lakers (14-22) have had a disappointing season so far, even with their injuries taken into consideration. However, GM Mitch Kupchak is still 100 percent behind Coach Mike D’Antoni.
With their sub .400 record, Mitch was asked about the coach, and he said:
“We’re happy with Mike. You can look back six weeks ago and say it’s exciting and we’re playing great. It’s hard to ignore the injuries but it was a fun game to watch when we were playing without Kobe [Bryant] and anticipating his return. In other words, ‘Wow, we’re playing this well now and Kobe has still yet to return and neither has [Steve] Nash?’ So we had high hopes.”
While the Lakers lose a lot more than they win, Mitch is right that it’s still a pretty exciting system to watch… but wins are always more exciting.
Yes, D’Antoni has dealt with many injuries on this team both this season and last season, but you have to question some decisions he makes.
For example, he ran both Kobe Bryant and Jordan Farmar into the ground as soon as they made their comebacks, and both are now injured again.
There’s also the issue of Chris Kaman not getting game time for no reason that seems to be clear to anyone but the coach.
