Monaco’s ambitions for silverware shared by Falcao, Rodriguez and Moutinho
Monaco continues to surprise onlookers by making big moves. The addition of Radamel Falcao to their attack has given the French club a huge boost. The Colombian hit-man will not only give Monaco with the x-factor needed to win silverware, but provide them with the attitude and ambition big teams have.
Radamel Falcao is not alone in that category. His old teammates from Porto, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez have also set their minds on bringing silverware to Monaco. After being officially revealed in front of the media on Tuesday, the new Monaco players expressed desire to fill up the newly promoted side’s trophy cabinet.
Monaco made a mega swoop for duo last month. According to reports, Monaco had to pay €70 million to Porto for Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez. Both players have inked five-year deals with the French outfit and are keen on turning ambition and hunger for glory into success and silverware at Monaco.
“Monaco have a great list of honors and want more. We want to show ourselves in Europe,” Joao Moutinho said. “The first season will be difficult to go out and try to qualify for the Champions League. After that, we want to be in it as often as possible to be able to hope to win it one day.
“The project that was presented to me was mid-to-long-term, over two or three years. It includes excellent players, a great team. It's a winning project, which is exactly what I wanted. We're going to battle to win all the competitions in which we'll play, I hope to contribute to the team winning titles.”
James Rodriguez, who was reportedly fetched for €45 million from Porto, admits he is happy to see his compatriot Radamel Falcao join him at Monaco. After winning Portuguese Liga title with Joao Moutinho last term, James Rodriguez believes his side can win the league title once again. The Colombian winger also believes that Radamel Falcao will play a pivotal role in the success of Monaco.
“Monaco is a club with a great history, a big club, and they give me the chance to play again with players like Joao and Falcao. That's what motivated me to come here,” James Rodriguez said.
“When you're a player, you want to go as far as possible, and I hope that Monaco will help me to do that. That's all I'm interested in.”
