Montreal Riots: Canadiens Win the Stanley Cup! Oh Wait, Just First Round
4/22/08

The Canadiens easily dispatched the Bruins 5-0 in last night's game seven in Montreal. Apparently the Habs fans are starved for the taste of victory, because their spirited rioting even made Los Angeles stand up and applaud.

It's been 15 years since the last Canadiens Stanley Cup title. Hardly a long wait in this era of parity in professional sports. Frightening to think what they might do if, you know, they actually were to win the whole thing.

It sounds like police cars took a worse beating than Bruins fans:

Despite increased police presence deployed to the streets before Monday night's game, rioters burnt or smashed 16 police cars as well as other vehicles, according to a preliminary police investigation.

Ten businesses were either vandalized or broken into, although Gingras said the damage was limited.

"One minute we were all hanging out and celebrating and then all hell broke out," said Jean-François Hotte, who watched as a Foot Locker store was ransacked by looters. A liquor store was also hit.

Safe to assume it probably wasn't the only liquor store hit. Silly, Canadiens.

HT to Fanhouse for the vid.

Wonder what would have happened if they lost.  Barry Melrose said the players wouldnt have showered after the game and would have had to leave for their vacation homes.  I assume their houses might be vandalized then.

Sean Avery's on to something.  French Canadians suck.  They're elitist a-holes and want hockey out of the US.  Oh well, they'll get swept next round.
