It's Time For Totally Baseless Rumor Mongering About A Potential Gay Athlete

We've got a pretty interesting story that's been put out there today by Gawker and Deadspin. As some of you familiar with the music industry might know, Terrance Dean, the former MTV music exec, is about to release a book on May 13th about the gay secrets of the rap industry. But he's also slowly unveiling some teaser stories on a blog.

One of the stories that popped up was how he allegedly had a rendezvous with a professional athlete at an island location spot.
I couldn't take my eyes off him. He was absolutely gorgeous - Tall, caramel, chinky eyes, and a body that wouldn't stop.

I asked my boy Clever if he knew the beautiful specimen of a man. Clever acknowledged that he did. "That's 'Preston' I haven't seen him in a while. He's always on the road. He plays for ________."

Now, I am really excited. This professional athlete just approached me and how he did it was so smooth. No one noticed anything.
Anyway, I'll let it end there. You can go to Gawker and read the rest if you want. Obviously there's no way to know if this is true or not, but it brings up the question yet again of are there gay professional athletes?

The answer is undoubtedly yes, as we know of several athletes who admitted to being gay when their careers ended.

But of course, the eternal question here is should they come out during their careers? I can't answer that. I think we all know pro sports is a macho world where there's a ton of gay bashing, so I don't blame any gay athlete for not coming out in the middle of that.

In the end, it should be a personal decision - and whomever it is that eventually does that in the middle of his career should be celebrated for being an incredibly brave person. But at the same time, pro sports and athletes should be much more open to the idea of having a gay teammate, even if that's admittedly a bit of a long shot.

Why can't you answer it?  Hell no they shouldn't come out during their career.  It rivals the military in terms of homophobic professions.  Of course there are a considerable amount of gay athletes.  Society's percentages don't suddenly disappear in sports, they increase if anything.  And while it's completely unfortunate, as a big name coming out would assuredly advance the acceptance of the lifestyle, way too much tension would be caused.  It'd be like having 10 Barry Bonds in the locker room.  10 gay Barry Bonds.

Supposedly 3/4ths of rugby players are gay, maybe the coming out party should start there.  I hope it eventually happens, but I don't see how it could.  Too many Garrison Hearsts and Tim Hardaways in the world.

And a gossipy, catty tell-all by some random flamboyant music exec doesn't help.  I dunno why so many gay guys think they have to act like bitches, save the obvious immature response.
