Jose Mourinho has declared Cristiano Ronaldo as the best footballer in the history. The Real Madrid manager insists the Portuguese star is the world’s “best ever” footballer. The Santiago Bernabeu boss believes Cristiano Ronaldo has created more legacy than football legends such as Diego Maradona and Pele.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2008, has netted 39 goals in 40 appearances for Real Madrid this season. The 28-year-old Portugal international has been phenomenal goal-scoring form since moving to Real Madrid for a world record transfer fee. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 185 goals in 184 appearances for Real Madrid since his debut in 2009.
With just a couple of hours left in the mouth-watering clash between Real Madrid and Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo has become a hot-topic internationally. Jose Mourinho believes Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed the biggest names in football from the last two centuries.
Players and managers from both Manchester United and Real Madrid have already admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo might prove to be the difference between sides in the second-leg of the Champions League battle at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. With Sir Alex Ferguson, former boss of Cristiano Ronaldo, joking about using a “machete” or a “machine-gun” to stop the Portuguese goal-scoring machine, all eyes will be on the Real Madrid star at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho hopes he will never have to deal with the “problem” of containing Cristiano Ronaldo.
“To be my team, nothing else,” Jose Mourinho told ITV Sport upon being questioned about what Real Madrid must do to qualify for the next stage of Champions League. “If we are my team, we will win.
“How do United stop Cristiano Ronaldo? That's not my problem. It's never a problem - I never want to stop Ronaldo. It's their problem. He is the best. The best in the world, yes. Probably the best ever.
“I saw Maradona a couple of times. I never saw Pele. But Cristiano is amazing. This man is the best. But even he can't win it on his own. The key is the team and the team needs balance and people doing different tasks. At this level, if somebody fails, we have no chance.
“We never say Cristiano is responsible when we lose a match and we can't think he is the only one who wins it. Without the team he is nothing but the team without him is not the same.”
