Mourinho happy with Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Stoke City
Following defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Crystal Palace, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho decided to go for a relatively new line-up in the Premier League battle against Stoke City. The star-struck squad of the Portuguese didn’t fail to impress as a 3-0 scoreline took away all three points from the game and added them to Chelsea’s tally.
Mourinho, who is now undefeated in 77 Premier League games at home, decided to hand Mohamed Salah his first full debut. The winger restored faith in his manager’s decision by scoring a goal, along with Willian and the club legend Frank Lampard.
Lampard netted his 250th goal for Chelsea, but he nearly missed it as his spot-kick was saved by the Stoke City goalkeeper and Lampard had to scramble to put the loose ball in the back of the net.
Mourinho, who last week admitted that Chelsea’s Premier League title aspirations ended with the Selhurst Park loss to Crystal Palace, maintains that his side will deliver their best performance till the end of the season.
“At home they feel more comfortable,” Mourinho said. “[But in the] Premier League we play 19 matches away, 19 at home. “If I go to a wedding, I don't go in jeans. If I leave my house for a walk in Hyde Park, I don't go in a smoking [jacket]. So when you go to play against Crystal Palace at Crystal Palace, you know the way you have to go.
“These boys, they have to be able to go away from home and to adapt to the situation. This takes time, let's go step by step. In football, to be champions and to win titles, you have to play in the sun, in the rain, in the cold, in the hot, small pitches, big pitches, direct football, possession football. You have to adapt.”
Chelsea striker Fernando Torres returned to attack, but the Spaniard had few true chances of scoring that are worth mentioning. The Spaniard was left out of the squad on the Wednesday against Paris Saint-Germain as Mourinho decided to go without striker in the game.
Thigh injury to Samuel Eto’o meant Mourinho had a tough decision to make. In the end Mourinho decided to use make-shift Andre Schurrle as striker, but the winger was far from impressive and eventually had to be replaced for Torres
After the game Mourinho said that Torres sweat hard on the field and did everything he could. Mourinho also said that Torres was a bit unlucky to have not found the back of the net. Nonetheless, the Stamford Bridge boss was happy to see his side record a convincing win.
