Moyes still searching for winning-team combination with Man Utd
Manchester United manager David Moyes insists his side is showing improvement with each passing day. However, the Old Trafford boss admits he is still searching for a winning combination in his team. Manchester United are certainly showing signs of improvement, but it will be a while before Moyes orchestrates the team he dreams about.
Moyes well understands that fact, which is why he is satisfied with his team’s recent performances. Manchester United has endured a difficult start to the season following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson this summer.
The Premier League champions are currently positioned eighth on the Premier League table, but with four wins and two draw in all competitions Moyes is confident his side is heading towards the right direction.
Manchester United will travel to Craven Cottage to play against Fulham on Saturday. As Manchester United attempts to grab a fourth consecutive win Moyes is hopeful this positive momentum will continue.
“We have started to pull together one or two half-decent results,” Moyes said. “Hopefully that starts to build a bit of momentum. We were a little bit up and down at the start of the season -- winning one, losing one -- so we are hoping to get more consistency and our form follows that.
“It has been good, the games we have won, but we have still got a bit to go. I don't think the dust is all settled down, not at all. We have still got more days where it might not go our way but I think the team is beginning to look a little bit better.”
Moyes concedes he is better settled at Old Trafford than before, although he is experimenting with his starting lineup.
“I am beginning to get to know them much better,” Moyes said. “I am beginning to see them and get an understanding of what they can do, what they are capable of, but in the same breath, we are still trying to find a side that gives us the consistency week in, week out and which we can say: 'Yes, this is the performance level we want to get'. In a lot of ways we are still striving to find that.”
Moyes likes to play versatile players, something he has instilled within Manchester United this season. Moyes insists he is keen on providing players more opportunities to play as Adnan Januzaj and Shinji Kagawa continue to press for first-team action.
“We have said before that Adnan can play any one position off the left, off the right, in behind [the striker], and he can play as a center forward as well. He is a really good center forward,” Moyes said.
“Shinji can do two or three jobs as well. That is why in the summer we didn't need people in those roles, which a lot of people suggested. We have a lot of players who can play there. I am pleased with what we have got. We have got variations and we will try to use them when we see fit.”
