MrNFL's Prediction System Rankings
A Patriots Vs Cowboys Super Bowl Is What It Looks Like We'll Have

Opening day is approaching, as is the deadline to vote in the FanIQ Prediction System.  Simply, you rate each team by different positions, and the scores get put to the schedule to come up with record predictions for the season.

We'd like to get you to vote. The more people we can get to vote, the more varied the numbers are, and the more accurate in theory the predictions will be.

Obviously, the system is far from perfect, but since we really have no idea what will truly happen, it will be interesting to look back at to see how close it got.  This weekend, we'll post the results using the rankings of each FanIQ member, but let's see how my personal rankings predicted the year according to the system.

(Note: I tweaked it slightly, home field is 4 instead of 5 points, and only 2 points in the playoffs)

NFC North     NFC South
Vikings 10-6   Bucs 11-5
Bears 9-7   Panthers 10-6
Packers 8-8   Saints 8-8
Lions 1-15   Falcons 4-12
NFC East     NFC West
Cowboys 13-3   Seahawks 8-8
Giants 9-7   49ers 7-9
Redskins 8-8   Cardinals 6-10
Eagles 7-9   Rams 6-10
AFC North     AFC South
Ravens 9-7   Colts 13-3
Steelers 8-8   Jaguars 13-3
Browns 6-10   Titans 10-6
Bengals 5-11   Texans 6-10
AFC East     AFC West
Patriots 14-2   Chargers 14-2
Jets 8-8   Raiders 8-8
Bills 8-8   Broncos 6-10
Dolphins 1-15   Chiefs 2-14

Now obviously, there are some results that many, myself included, look at with confusion.  The Bears making the playoffs for one, I doubt they win more than 6.  Ravens are another in a similar situation.  As for the playoffs:

1 Cowboys
    Cowboys
3 Vikings Vikings
6 Bears   Cowboys
      Bucs
4 Seahawks   Cowboys
5 Panthers Seahawks
    Bucs
2 Bucs
Playoffs         Patriots
1 Chargers
    Chargers
3 Colts Colts
6 Titans     Patriots
      Colts
4 Ravens   Patriots
5 Jaguars Jaguars
    Patriots
2 Patriots

So my ratings predict a Cowboys/Patriots Super Bowl, with New England winning.  It'll be fun to see how close (or awful) this looks once the season ends, but the great thing about the NFL, is that crazy things happen.

These are what my rankings predict, and if you haven't voted yet, do it now so we can see what FanIQ's ratings predict for the 2008 season.

There's no way in the world the Bears win more than 4.

Possibly... I'll take the Raiders 8-8 also - think the 'Skins will finish a little higher - along with the 'Skins, I think the Bucs will surprise people and will be better than everyone thinks...

don't think the pats will go 14-2,but  that little bump in the road last feb. might give them more motivation than usual. the secondary concerns me brady's health,o-line got exposed at the end last year. but we still got the hoodie on the sidelines. bring it home

Oh, I will take any bets that the raiders win 8. I will take UNDER. A first year startign QB with a woeful OL and you think they are gonna win 8 game. When they dont I suggest you rename yourself. Because someone calling themdelves Mr. NFL should know even their headcoach doesnt like his team. If it was 8 wins good, they would not have needed to sign that ingrate Ashlie Leile.

Bears in the playoffs? Let alone, winning 5 games. Hilarious.

Remember, it's just something to spark NFL discussion.  Taking shots at me doesn't accomplish anything.

I'm a big Bears fan, but I have to say they have very little playoff shot.  I'm surprised.

Yeah, I would be shocked to see them win more than 6.  Schedule is taken into account a lot, perhaps they faced all of their toughest at home, I don't remember their total score being very high.

Its not a personal shot. Its a play on your name. If you are going to take it that way, then I am sorry. But I stand by my statement

I don't expect the Raiders to win 8 honestly, but they have a GREAT secondary, and overall a pretty good D.  The passing game is simply non-existent, and the offense will struggle.  But 6 wins doesn't seem unlikely to me.

I do guarantee they won't be the worst team in that division.  Kansas City looks plain awful, and I expect Denver to be about the same record-wise as the Raiders.

That I 100% disagree with you on. Look for Cutler to make the pro bowl. denver has more talent than the radiers and chefs. Plus a top 10 rushing offense too boot. Oakland had no WR's, OL and cnat stop the run. What good does a decent secondary (not sold on Hall) do if they cant stop the run? Denver will be anywhere from 8-10 wins. Easy schedule. Denvers offense will be outstanding.

Denver's offensive line is less than stellar, the running game won't be the usual plug and run this year.  The defensive line is weak, and linebackers are unimpressive, plus special teams are mediocre.

Granted, I think they are better than the Raiders, but this Bronco team is the most unimpressive team I've seen from them in years.  And I like Cutler, I think he's a top 10 guy, but you need more than a QB to be a playoff team.  I think 8 wins is the ceiling, 6 is the floor.

I will add, I'll say 6 is the ceiling for the Raiders, but I see them winning 5.

Denvers OL was weaker last year and was a top 10 rushing team which it has been for 11 of the 13 seasons Shanahan has coached them. Plus thats why they drafted Clady in the first round. If oyu listen to the "experts" they expect Clady to be por bowl bound in 2-3 years. DL is a question mark but they are gonna be a lot better. Robertson and Marcus Thomas in the middle are tough to move. The LB's dont have to be flashy but good. DJ williams will show what he is made of, he is fast , good and smart. He las played all 3 LB's spots in the past 3 years. Nobody knows about the ST's. Dont fall asleep on the runnng game and MArshall is a beast and will get another 100 receptions this season. 8 wins is no ceiling. Plus if anything that is consistent in Denver is that Shanahan has never had back-back losing seasons and this year will not be the first. Especially in this day and age of the NFL. Teams can go from 4-12 to 13-3 in one year. But its great nobody likes Denver. When they do well I will be the one

We'll see.  Most years, I usually actually have high expectations for the Broncos, last two years I expected them to be playoff contenders.  We'll see though.

If they have a bad year though, say 6-7 wins, end of the line for Shanahan?

I would be jumping for joy if the Rams win 6 games.  There schedule is brutal early in the season and there team just isnt that good.

Will never happen. Pat Bowlen has said repeatedly that Shanahan is the coach of the Broncos as long as he wants. Its usually the stoopid media that wants his head. The last I checked the media is biased, the love NE, NY teams, and the Cowboys. Plus in the NFL, the success and failure of most teams are tied to QB play. If Cutler is as good as I think he is gonna be, and he is projected to be Denver will be fine and good

I disagree 100% with the QB assessment, teams win games and QB's are only as good as the guys around them.  But I agree, Shanahan has earned that right with the success he's had.

Thats fine, but the good and most consistent teams all have one thing in common its the QB. The QB play in the NFL right is awful. I blame that on the popularity of the spreadin the college game.

Crap, I didn't mean to give that a thumbs up.  Remember, a QB is only as good as the players around him.  The best QB would fail with an awful line.  Many of the "unsuccessful" QB's are on losing teams, because they don't have talent around them.  The good teams and "Successful" QB's usually have very good lines, and weapons.

Either way, one thing we can agree on, hooray football!
