About Me:
Born and raised in Delaware. Somehow, I've ended up in South Carolina. Life-long Phillies fan. In my "spare time" I work at THE USC for football and basketball games . (University of South Carolina for those who are west coast biased.) GO GAMECOCKS!

Well, I made it. Cross it off the Bucket List. Create a new To-Do List. I finally caught a game at historic Yankee Stadium.
Since we were up in Delaware for a week, I decided to see if my Dad score us some tickets to the game. He did. He actually scored eight of them. I guess it's not too hard to get a ticket to a day game against the Royals.
Of course, it figures the one day in the past 34 years that I try to go to a Yanks game, the weather is freakin' insane. It was over 100 degrees at the time of the first pitch and seemed to only get hotter as the game wore on. (My parents have blamed me for bringing the heat with me from South Carolina)
The game was OK. Not much offense until the end of the game. The Yankees lost 3-2 - I think I'm supposed to be happy about that, but my brain is still totally fried from the heat stroke.
We took a little one to the game - Will, an 8-year old friend of the family. He had his A-Rod jersey on. I think I was just as happy for Will as the Yankee fans were for the team when A-Rod hit a game tying 2-run homer in the seventh. Kind of reminded me of the day when I idolized the Phillies players (Schmidt, Carlton, Rose, etc...) and then got to see them play in person. Gave me goose bumps to think that he'll remember that home run for as long as he lives.
As far as the stadium goes, it was pretty cool. I wish we could have gotten closer to monument park. The seats weren't the best, but at least we were in the stadium. Also, it was so freakin' hot during the game, that (I swear) nearly a quarter of the fans were in the breeze-way or concession stands at any given moment during the game. Since Christie was nearly destroyed by the heat, I forced her to walk with me to the gift shop behind home plate. (I bought her a Yankees shirt to cover up what I was sure to be the first signs of sun poisoning - thankfully it wasn't) I tried to sneak out behind home plate, but there were too many people lined up along the wall there - trying to beat the heat. No killer views of the stadium for me on this day.
And I found the Yankees fans to be pretty knowledgeable and fairly decent to be around. (I actually got some great advice about Subway transportation for the ride back to NJ) There were a few "Boston Sucks" chants which I was highly amused by. It was even more amusing to listen to the people who had no clue about baseball or the rivalry explain the chants to their significant others.
In all, I'm glad I can say that I saw a game at Yankee Stadium. I saw the construction on the new stadium. Don't get me started on that - I'll have to comment about that another time. For an older stadium I really didn't think it was that bad at all. Actually, it was nicer than some of the "newer" stadiums I've been in.
