My projected starting rotation for the 2014 New York Mets

The New York Mets have a pretty solid pitching rotation for 2014 and beyond.  I'll be projecting what the rotation will look like for the season and what to expect from these 5 players.  Plus the potential prospects and signings that could make a leap into the rotation.

1.  Bartolo Colon- Maybe one of the more risky contracts the Mets have given out over the past couple of years but Bartolo is coming off of one of his best seasons ever with the A's.  Switching back over to the NL and a relatively week division when it comes to lineups and the fact that there are 4 pitchers parks for him to work in.  He has the most experience of all the pitchers on this staff and based off last year deserves to be the Mets number one for now.  He should finish with a record of 15-8 and an ERA hovering around 3.30.

2. Zack Wheeler- Zack Wheeler has had a lot of hype about him ever since the Mets traded for him in exchange for Carlos Beltran back in 2011.  The hype was even bigger after Matt Harvey came up prior to Wheeler and lit up the show.  Zack was making huge strides over the course of the season and should improve again this year and many years to come as the Mets No. 2 or 3 pitcher.  A mediocre 12-7 record to go along with a 3.48 ERA seems about right as he still learns to control all of his pitches and throws more strikes.  Look for him to hit some bumps but overall have a good year.

3. Jonathan Niese- Jonathan was having a down year prior to his injury and didn't look like the type of pitcher we were all hoping for.  That's why he would fall back down to the No. 3 starter for the foreseeable future.  If he can stay healthy Jon should be as good as any pitcher on this current staff.  If he can stay on the mound then he should be able to post a record of 14-9 with a ERA of 3.40.  I think this will be a nice bounce back year for Jon.

4. Dillion Gee- Regarded as one of the best No. 4 starters in all of baseball Dillion Gee is a pretty good guy to have at the back end of a rotation and he really adds depth to the staff.  He is coming off of his best year yet and he can make some improvements but his ceiling isn't all that high.  A rational record for Dillion could end of being 11-9 with a 3.83 ERA or maybe higher but he can really provide some good outings and innings for the Mets this year.

5.  Daisuke Matsuzaka- Dice-K had all the hype in the world around him when he came over from Japan to the Red Sox.  Let's just say that he didn't pan out to be what everyone though he was.  I put him at number 5 because he did pitch for them last year and Jenry Mejia and John Lannan haven't pitched that much or well these past few years to earn a spot.  It really is up for grabs but I feel as if Dice- K is going to be that guy.  Now I don't predict a very good season at all and would be a little surprised if he managed to have a solid year.  An 8-12 record seems accurate to go along with an ERA of 4.50.  Expect the worst but hope for the best with Dice-K.

Other Potential Starters: As for other potential starters for the Mets this year there are farm options like Jacob Degrom, Rafael Montero and Noah Syndergaard.  There are also Jenry Mejia and John Lanann as other candidates for the 5th spot.  Noah and Rafael probably won't be called up until mid summer.  The rotation is still the Mets strong suit even considering the absence of superstar Matt Harvey.  Hopefully this is an improving year for the Mets and not a setback.
