Myron Cope: Tribute to the Terrible Towel
READ MORE:

Like most NFL fans outside of Pittsburgh, we know Myron Cope for pretty much one thing: the Terrible Towel. He clearly meant much more to those of the city. Steeler nation has lost its most beloved figure not named Rooney. Or Roethlisberger ... OK, maybe not yet.

From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"Mr. Cope was 79. He had been in declining health since even before his 2005 retirement from the Steelers broadcast booth, where he spent 35 years. The cause of death was given as respiratory failure.

One of the last of the great sports characters, a genuine oasis in a sea of ever homogenizing media-ocrity, Mr. Cope's life and career were nothing less than book-worthy, even if he had to write it himself. Twice.

"Double Yoi" it was called both times, the second an updated version of the original 2002 volume, the title immortalizing one of Cope's signature exclamations, which, along with "Okle-dokle," "Dumbkopf!", and "How do?", became go-to standards of a singular TV and radio language that often seemed entangled in an impossible dichotomy: it was uniquely Cope and yet it was intrinsically Pittsburgh."
If you know anyone from Pittsburgh, you're certainly aware of their special language and almost frightening dedication to their team. Myron Cope could not have been anymore Pittsburgh. The video above pays tribute quite well. Bye now, fine sir.

You may hate them, but Myron Cope's son is autistic.  He is at the Allegheny Valley School in Pittsburgh.  In 1996, Cope went to the school and told the head of the school "I'm giving you the Terrible Towel.  I'm giving you the trademark and my name."  So for the past 12 years, all proceeds from every Terrible Towel purchased have gone to that school and research for autism.

By the way, his voice really had nothing to do with his death.  He had voice box cancer due to all the years he smoked.

I didn't say that.  I'm saying his smoking was the reason he got cancer.  You said his voice was the cause of his death.  I know you may think that was supposed to be a joke, but it was pathetic.
