the top prospect coming into the chase, Kyle Busch, he was the hottest thing since a young Jeff Gordon took the sport by storm in 1995 & 1996. Kyle came into this Chase season with everything but the Cup in hand, course he had Carl "Flipper" Edwards hot on his heals. Kyle Busch has won everything NASCAR has thrown at him this year, Cup Series, Nationwide, and the Craftsman trucks series, and for four or more different teams! He has dominated in everything he has entered, until now.
The Chase has been Kyle's Brick wall, and it doesn't come with soft barriers as most of the curves on the NASCAR tracks. This has to be very disheartening to him, it is to me, and I don't even like him !! The proverbial rug seems to have been snatched out from underneath him for a Sprint Cup Championship.
So, the torch gets handed to Carl "Flipper" Edwards who was running a close second in wins this year. Well he was looking as the next top prospect, as long as he could hold off the late blooming of Jimmie Johnson who has been saying all year "don't count us out!!" and making a late charge. Well "Flipper" was really looking good till that bonehead move he made at Talladega " Trying to HELP his teammate, with a bump and run" in a dang curve at 190 mph? yeah right, this just wrote himself out of his chase prospects with the first of his two DNFs after last nights race at Lowe's Motor speedway where he couldn't keep his car running? Carl was my pick for the Cup, OH well?
So, we have to look further down the list,.............. hmmmmmm, the next pick most likely would be Jimmie Johnson, and rightly so. He really has stepped up his game lately, but better late than never, right? Jimmie sure is flexing his muscle, but showing muscle now may prove hazardous to his Cup prospects as too for Greg Biffle who has charged headlong into this thing. Greg might have a solid chance if he can stay away from "Flipper" in order to keep his car from being torn up. These two drivers are the next to get shot out of the saddle, and have their hopes smashed up against that same brick wall Kyle has hit, if the 2008 Chase Curse still raises it's ugly head.
it might take a sleeper like.................. maybe Jeff Burton, to sneak in under the radar, as to not awaken that 2008 Sprint Cup Chase Curse. Just race good enough not to have a DNF, or maybe just one, and finish good enough, while only winning once maybe twice in the Chase, just not in a row, that would surely awaken the 2008 Chase Curse. All the others are going down in flames, because they seem to have shined to early. Either way we as fans have an AWESOME nail-biting Chase on our hands and it looks like any ones Championship at this point!! Have fun NASCAR Fans!!

Jeff Burton!
