It's 'Dega Baby! Let's go Racin'

Blog Photo - NASCAR Aaron's 499 [Live Race Thread]Will it be Jeff Gordon?  He's won here six times, more than anyone but Dale Earnhardt Sr.  Or will it be Dale Earnhardt Jr.? He's won five times.

Maybe it will be Michael Waltrip, who has onboard cameras today that will show us things we've never seen before.

Last year it was David Ragan who took the checkers first, and it is entirely possible a first time winner could be in Victory Lane.

It's the fastest track on the circuit, and at 2.66 miles around, it seems to take forever to run a lap.  That being said, when the cars get together and run in a pack, it seems to take no time at all to get around the track.  Lapping a non-pack car takes only seconds.  The very last lap of the race may be the slowest for the driver leadng the race and the fans cheering him on, and at the end of it all, one driver goes to victory lane and the rest just relive the moments of the race.

It all gets underway in just a few minutes and I'll be here, all race long.  I'm picking Dale Jr to win and tie Jeff for wins.  I'm also predicting a big one.  Really, you say??  Yes.  You see, Talladega has gone caution free.  It won't happen today.

Brian Scott leads the drivers to the checkers, with Paul Menard alongside.  Look for some drivers to stay near the back and others try to lead every lap.  Who will win it?? We'll find out in about four hours.  Let's go racing!

I agree he wasn't clear.  I'm not saying she should have checked up at all.  She shouldn't.  But she did not need to come up the track.  Her lane on the bottom was clear.  If she had held her line and not come up the track, however, she would not have hit him.  That is why I say "avoidable contact"

I guess we agree to disagree. I believe she was driving too aggressively for the early laps of the race, blocking other drivers who were trying to pass her, and commenting about it openly on the radio. I don't believe Brad is blameless by any means, but I also don't believe it was all Brad as many are insisting.

If Brad had not slowed down, there would of been no "avoidable contact". You have no idea how much it pains me to not be slamming her, but if it was any other driver, there would be no story. :(

Weak ending to one of the most exciting tracks on the circuit.
Congrats to Denny for finally winning one.

you didn't see all the cars finishing ?

Oh I saw the finish, but I also saw the wreck happening before the white flag was even in the flagman's hand.  He chose to display the white instead of the yellow, treating us to a very anticlimactic finish.

And Jr is single-handedly using that .1% strategy today

And proves he is smarter than the average bear, as they wreck in front of him.....again

Edwards, Cole Whitt, Ryan Newman and almost JJ and Stenhouse

Not today :(

Ten to go.  Harvick in the lead.  He's usually the one who suddenly appears out of nowhere

Jimmie sounded just like Brad  … confused., didn't know what happened.

Another big wreck. .. looks like Jimmie Johnson lost his and caused it.

And another caution, this time for David Gilliland - appears he blew up.

Too bad that all those cars got wrecked.  I feel really bad for Tony who can't seem to catch a break this year at all.  Brad didn't get hit by anyone, didn't get touched, but it really appeared that something broke.  As Pete Pistone said when people commented that Brad shouldn't have been there, "where should he be?'  He had a fast car and was trying to get laps back.  It has happened before that a driver has had an early accident, made repairs and come back to win.  Any one of those drivers who were criticizing him would do the same thing.  Right now they are all angry and speaking with emotion, but if they were honest, it could be any one of them.

5/4/14   |   texas_tornado4261   |   84442 respect

Well, it takes a lap car to make a big wreck …… too bad for all the drivers

No, I agree.  I think Paul is the strong quiet one.  He's gonna get that win soon.

A bunch of cars have dropped back, including Jr., Stewart, Mikey, Menard, |Kyle Busch, Bowyer and Kahne.  Now that they have taken 3 gallons of water out of the cooling system (2 as opposed to 5 last year) the cars are heating up quicker and staying hot.  The drivers are running in the back, to get more air through the grill opening to try to cool the engine down.  It's still 80F there today.

So far it's Paul Menard, Jeff Gordon and Danica leading the three lanes of cars.  Danica is already blocking and there are still 175 laps to go.  Why?

5/4/14   |   Debi_L   |   11862 respect

Running three wide on lap 5, Menard is leading but DW is pushing Danica, predicting she will take the lead, and stating that all drivers want to run with her.

Danica leads and people are actually cheering.
