NASCAR Carfax 400 [Live Thread]
Rousch? Gibbs? or Hendrick? Not if Smoke can help it - Carfax 400 at Michigan
The Nationwide race on Saturday was pretty exciting.  I have to admit that.  Brian Vickers led them to the green, and he was there at the end of the race to trade barbs with Kyle Busch.  Uhfortunately for the two of them, it wasn't trading barbs over one winning and the other losing, because while they were blocking, bumping and banging on the racetrack, Brad Keselowski was passing them, and winning.

I like Michigan, even though it holds a lot of sad memories for me, the lives changed and lost here affected me a lot as a newer NASCAR fan.  It's a hard track to hate though, as the racing is usually pretty good.

Roush usually does well here, so if Carl Edwards wants a win before he gets to the Chase, now would be a great time to do so.  Of course, there are 42 other drivers who want to keep him winless and will do whatever they can do so.  Smoke. of course, is on a roll and looking stronger every day.  Jeff doesn't want to talk about his sore back any more, even though we've all seen the replay of the wreck at least a dozen times this week.

And what of Brian Vickers?  He took the pole for both the Nationwide and Cup races, and he was so close on Saturday, he could be a force to be reckoned with today.

It will all shake out as it always does, and hopefuly, it shakes out safely, above all.

If you're watching the race and want to chat it up, this is the place to do it! Join in, talk some trash, and above all, enjoy the race!

I think your title is a fitting description of this race.  Michigan seems like of those tracks where the race always comes down to fuel mileage.  In choosing a winner, you are better off putting all the drivers names in a hat and blindly picking one.

About time to go racing!  I like the article.  Very good!  Scott is right too, put the names in a hat on this one.  At this track, you just never know!!!

Time to move the race to the Pontiac Silverdome.  Wherever a NASCAR race shows up, so does the rain.

I like NASCAR a lot but I can't understand why it has to stop when rain occurs. Why can't wet tires be used just like in Formula 1,WTCC or other competitions(at least on road tracks and on longer ovals)?

Hydroplaning, there would be a lot of crashes

cars are heavier, brakes not as good, not as much downforce, poor visability... from what i hear.

I agree, but on road tracks speed isn't so high.Let's take WTCC,for example. There are a lot of cars too(around 25-30) and contacts are allowed.

And so the fuel mileage game begins.....  I fear my fantasy team will again go from the front of the pack to the middle of the pack by the time the race ends

Can we shorten Michigan by 10-15 laps just to get rid of fuel mileage racing? Its a great race track but absolutely ruined by this stuff.  I can count once in my life when a fuel mileage was exciting.

So Junior might get a top 5 (or even a win) at a legitimate racing track and Jimmie Johnson might get fuel mileaged again.

Great...the only way Joonyer can seem to win a race. Stremme or Ragan, we need a spin or two now so the 5,m 83, 48, 24 can make it on fuel!

Looks like Vickers and Johnson have started racing.  Hopefully they have enough left to do that.

Gordan ALWAYS makes the chase. HendriX owns NASCAR!! The guy pays very well compared to other owners and doesnt take credit away from the drivers!
