NASCAR It's Bristol Baby [Live Thread]

It's raining at Bristol, so that means Night Race! Or does it?

Yep, that's right, it's raining at Bristol.  Right now Michael Waltrip is doing the Motorhome Walk to kill time.  Clint Bowyer provided Mikey with a 5 Hour Energy - like he needs that!

But seriously, this is what the map looks like:

Although the announcers are saying the skies are clearing, that doesn't look to be a possibility for a few hours.  In fact, the POP doesn't drop from 90% until around 6pm.

For now, FOX is in time killing mode.

Kyle Busch won in the Nationwide race yesterday, so has to be a favorite for the race today, but Kevin Harvick finished in third, In a JR Motorsports car, and now that his season seems to be on better footing, he also could be a favorite.

What the TV coverage has not shown us this year, at least not that I have seen, is the progress of Tony Stewart, at least until today.  No, Smoke has not had a good start to his season, currently sitting 27th in points.  Unfortunately, after seeing Tony trying to simply walk in the pit area, it seems he really isn't at a point where he should be driving the car.  It's obvious, with the limp he still has, that the leg has not healed the way we  were all led to believe.

Please don't get me wrong, I am stoked to see Smoke back on track, as are legions of his fans, but I have to wonder if he isn't doing himself more harm than good by climbing into that car week after week.  Please Tony, put yourself first!

Baby watch is on for Matt Kenseth.  His wife, Katie, is due to give birth to the couple's third child, almost any day now.  The news today, however, is that no labor pains are ongoing, and Matt should be clear to get the race in.

As I'm typing this, FOX is showing an updated map.  Apparently there has been some clearing, and the Titan Air Dryers are currently on track.  It only takes 45 minutes to dry the track, being as it is only .533 miles around.  Here's hoping Darrell Waltrip's Vortex theory works and once they get racing, the rain stays out of Thunder Valley.

We'll keep you updated as the day progresses, and if you feel like joining in, please do so! I'm picking Kevin and Dale Jr to go 1 and 2 in the race, in either order.  Optimistic maybe, but I think either of them has what it takes to win.  What about you?

Correction:  Apparently the flag man accidentally leaned on the manual override switch up in the booth.  Oooooooooops

TSN did go back to the race after curling was done.  Carl Edwards got the win with a yellow/checkers wave.  The yellow came out mysteriously with 2 1/2 laps left to go.  No one seemed to know what was happening but luckily for NASCAR it started absolutely pouring moments later.  Apparently it was a track equipment malfunction, perhaps due to the rainfall.  In any case, with the rain falling, NASCAR did not try to go for the GWC.
Top five was Carl, Stenhouse, Almirola, Stewart and Hamlin.  Kevin Harvick blew up and Dale Jr. shredded two Left front tires.  The King's record is safe for another year.

Of course, Kenny Wallace tweets that it is the best racing he has seen in a long time, and TSN can't eve be bothered to use their Alternate feed.  #SoDisgusted

For those in Canada:  indecision

Rain continues to drizzle down in patches.  Fox has gone to a movie, so I'm watching Gravity.  They are estimating 2 hours.

Remember our friend Matt Poole? He's at the track, and cooking for friends.  Here's what they get to eat:

Red Flag out for rain.  Looks like about 45-60 minutes worth before they can begin to dry the track.  So far, my fantasy team of Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Brad Keselowski, Kasey Kahne and Denny Hamlin have for the most part, avoided any type of big trouble.

And we are GREEN GREEN GREEN at Bristol!  Contact already between Denny Hamlin and Jeff Gordon.  Brad Keselowski leads
