A friend of mine is at the race. Attending the races was on his bucket list. I only hope he was not sitting in that section

Jim Utter tweeted helicopters being landed on pit road.

Jeff Gluck also tweeted he has seen five people removed on backboards.

I'm shocked that this doesn't happen more often.  I can't believe that an entire engine was able to get through the fence and it makes me wonder if all these tracks that hold races actually know if their fences/safety precautions for the fans can handle something like this happening

Jeff Gluck also says he can see multiple stretchers being used in grandstands and medics working frantically.

Both Kyle Busch's wife and Jeff Gluck have described that wreck as sounding like a bomb went off.  If everyone is okay, its going to be a minor miracle. 

Larson's engine is in the grandstand. This is not good. It appears all the drivers are OK, but the fans no one knows yet.

Smith gets turned around, Stewart wins, Hornish 2nd, huge wreck. Larson got into the catch fence. He's alright, but there is attention being paid on the grandstand side.

I'm impressed with the way the Nationwide race has been going. For a bunch of youngins' they sure have been doing a great job.
Pastrana is a new fav of mine.

As I was typing that last post, it was reported that Dick (and Johanna Long) were released from the infield care center.

Michael Annett has been transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Also, there are unconfirmed reports that Jamie Dick has not been responding to radio transmissions.

That was predictable the way that pack was going there. Total chaos behind the top 6 or so.

Very impressive by Pastrana. No one wanted to draft him and he was still running top 10. Plus getting through that wreck.

Finally, why did people hate tandem drafting again?

And it's the Big One.

I feel so bad for Travis Pastrana!!! He is doing a f***ing fantastic job not wrecking that car, for all the times he keeps getting run into!!

Well, and now word comes down thru twitter, of course, that Danica didn't necessarily blow the engine.  Apparently she could have switched to the other ignition and the car would have refired -  She said that herself during the interview "oh it restarted - that's disconcerting.

Right on there Debi. Can't believe that wasn't the Big One.

I have to admit, I'm loving seeing Dale Jr and Jeffrey Earnhardt in this race.  For a while there they were even running nose to tail.

Where did Hornish go? I don't even think he's with those that are in the back on purpose.

Meanwhile, I called the Caps depressing, and they go on to win 4-1 with Ovie getting a hat trick for the first time in three years. I swear they do better when I don't watch.

Sorry, the game is still going. It's now 5-1 (assist by Ovie), and it's Ovie first *home* hat trick in three years.

At certain angles, Elliott Sadler's car looks like Dale Jarrett's old 88. That's all I got.

Prediction for Kyle today? I think a top 10 is a possibility, realistically I think a top 15 is more probable.


LOL. Just looked at Danica's Nationwide stats. Her 7 top 10 tens in 58 career Nationwide races is so amazing!. How long before she is riding around in the back today?

I agree.  Kyle is enormously talented and I will probably do a feature again this year on the up and comers, as I have in years past.  He'll undoubtedly be one of the ones to watch.  

Good to see some of the drivers I've "spotlighted" over the years are in this race, including Johanna Long and Blake Koch :)

Duncan, do you have a prediction for Kyle for this race?  He is starting half way through the pack, so will have to avoid wrecks, no doubt and get the hell outta there, but to the back? to the front?  Where will he finish?

Looking forward to watching Kyle Larson race full time in the Nationwide series for Turner this year. If you don't know who he is, well then you likely should get used to hearing his name as this kid has some serious talent. He has won just about everything he has ever raced in.

Tony Stewart who has raced against him on dirt said this week he will he be a Cup star. How confident his Smoke in saying that? I guarantee that. He then said, “If not, you can take everything I own, because I’m that confident. It’s not a matter of if, it’s when.”

I really thought that feature by Ray Evernham was great!!! Good explanation of how the cars draft.

Honestly, though, I have the TV sound turned waaaaaaay down when Rusty Whiner and Danasalvoice are on.  GAWD can't they find some announcers who aren't painful to listen to??
