This Saturday, fireworks will fly after the race, but they're sure to fly on the track as well. As NASCAR heads into the race formerly known as the Firecracker 400, who's leading the pack and who's losing the draft? Honorable mention goes to Casey Mears for an 11th place finish by staying out when the rains came.
NEW THIS WEEK: Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Sam Hornish Jr.
DROPPED OUT: Jamie McMurray, Brian Vickers, A.J. Allmendinger, Jeff Burton
ON THE GAS: Kyle Busch, David Reutimann
ON THE BRAKES: Ryan Newman, Marcos Ambrose, Matt Kenseth
20. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (previously unranked): Junior charged up through the field like rockets red glare, then started to fade just a bit. The 4 guys who stayed out when the rains came were what kept him from a top 10 finish.
19. Sam Hornish Jr. (previously unranked): Hornish earned himself a top 10 finish, and this wasn't due to rain fizzling out the fireworks, he ran pretty darn good all day.
18. Brad Keselowski (previously unranked): Yes, Brad took the gamble and it paid off. He finished 6th, and the Nationwide 3rd place points man has done quite well this year.
17. Matt Kenseth (-5): Kenseth was rockets red dud at Loudon. He finished 22nd and was never a factor.
16. Marcos Ambrose (-5): The Tasmanian Devil was the same as Matt Kenseth, finishing one spot lower at 23rd. They both were never a factor, drop the same amount of spots, and hope to rebound at the Firecracker.
15. Joey Logano (previously unranked): "Sliced Bread" became the youngest winner in NASCAR's top division, eclipsing his teammate's record by more than a year. He stayed out and hit the jackpot with the rain, but he'll start winning races the real way by the end of the year.
14. Mark Martin: This is where Mark was in last week's rankings, it's where he finished in Loudon, and it's where he stays.
13. Greg Biffle: The Biff led for a while, but faded to 18th. Is there really a point in switching he and former teammate Mark Martin because Mark finished 14th? I don't think so.
12. Clint Bowyer (-2): Bowyer just hung on to a top 20 finish, and never was a factor at the track where he scored his first Cup Series victory 2 years ago.
11. David Reutimann (+9): Reutimann is on a roller coaster. He was able to stay out, got lucky with a top 5 finish, and goes back to his spot in the rankings that he held prior to his dud weekend in Sonoma plus two That's partly because of Mark Martin and Greg Biffle having menza-menza finishes.
