Lindsey King is a 19-year-old with a passion for racing. She began racing at the age of 9, convincing her dad to buy her a go-kart so she could go race with the kids down the street at the local go-kart track. Now, 10 years later, she's on her way to fulfilling a dream. King won a late model race at Irwindale Speedway, and currently sits 5th in the series points standings in the Auto Club Late Model series. This girl is out to show the world that NASCAR's victory lane isn't just for boys.
King entered 2008 in a car partnered by NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program. She's now setting out to earn the respect of her fellow competitors, and with her historic first win, it looks like she's succeeding. She used to go to the track for some social time of sorts when she began racing go-karts back in 1998. Now she wants to prove to her mother, who hasn't like the idea from the beginning, that she is a winner and that she WILL go all the way.
The 19-year-old King will start college this fall, and says it is her "back-up plan." Should she falter in stock car racing, she'll have an education to fall back on...but don't count on that. Lindsey King is looking to become Queen of the Road. She hopes to move on to the Camping World series next. From there it would be great to see her get a shot in a Nationwide or Craftsman Truck ride. Danica Patrick, eat your heart out! Lindsey King is quickly making a name for herself, and IMHO, the buck stops at the Sprint Cup Series for this young girl if she keeps up this level of performance.
