Twenty-five were nominated in early July and today the five inaugual members of the NASCAR Hall of Fame were announced.They twenty-five nominees were about what you'd expect, some of the pioneers, some of the well known drivers, some of the well known owners. All in all, it was an extremely varied bunch. Each year more will be nominated, and each year, more will be inducted.
This year's nominees included Lee Petty, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Allison, Donny Allison, Bill France Sr. and Bill France Jr, Buck Baker and Cale Yarborough. It also included Fireball Roberts, Red Byron and Junior Johnson. Fifteen of the nominees won't be inducted this year, but look for them in years to come.
The five inaugural members will be honored at the Hall of Fame opening in May 2010.

Richard Petty
Junior Johnson
Bill France, Sr
Bill France, Jr
