Sensational defensive play doesn't always get the recognition it deserves in the NBA, but there is one time a year that the league's premier defenders get credit for their stellar seasons - the NBA All-Defensive teams were announced on Monday:

LeBron James was the leading vote-getter. With the size and athleticism to guard just about anyone in the league successfully, you can probably pencil in LBJ for the next several All-Defensive teams. It's LeBron's fifth straight All-Defensive first-team selection.

For the second straight season, the Defensive Player of the Year didn't make the All-Defensive first-team. Last year it was Tyson Chandler; this year it was Marc Gasol. The Defensive POY is voted on by the media, while the All-Defensive team is voted on by the NBA coaches.

Seven of the eleven All-Defensive team players came from teams who finished top-five in opponent points per game (MEM, IND, CHI, LAC, MIA).

Some players who just missed out: Andre Iguodala (DEN), Larry Sanders (MIL), Thabo Sefolosha (OKC), Luol Deng (CHI), Dwight Howard (LAL).

This is the first season since 2006-07 that Dwight Howard did not make the team.
