With the second of their back-to-back picks, the Hawks have taken Shane Larkin, point guard out of Miami, with the 18th pick of the 2013 NBA Draft.  This pick is reportedly part of a potential three-team trade between Atlanta, Boston and Dallas, and Larkin is expected to be headed to the Mavericks.

This pick originally came from Brooklyn as part of the Joe Johnson deal and now will be a part of the Hawks Mar 28, 2013; Washington, D.C., USA; Miami Hurricanes guard Shane Larkin (0) dribbles in the first half against the Marquette Golden Eagles during the semifinals of the East regional of the 2013 NCAA tournament at the Verizon Center. The Mavericks are looking to make a big splash this offseason in the free agent or trade market, but adding Larkin will give the team a boost even if it's not exactly the boost they wanted.

Larkin is an incredible athlete that should add excitement and production to the Mavericks roster.  He is under 6" but was the most athletic player at the combine and has the skills to match.  He can shoot, defend, run the pick and roll and showed his leaderhsip skills this past season at Miami.

And as the son of Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, it is likely that he understands the work ethic it takes to be a successful professional.

It is unclear whether Dallas will actually end up keeping Larkin.  They want to minimize contractual obligations but first round picks get guaranteed contracts.
