Cody Zeller at No. 4 is another early surprise in the draft
The Cats have been drafting in the lottery for a while now but still don't have many answers. Hopefully Zeller will help a team that finished 26th in points scored and 29th in points allowed per game and went 21-61 last year.
Kemba Walker, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bismack Biyombo and a few of the other recent draft picks definitely have places in this league, but the Bobcats are in need of a player that can elevate the play of the other youngsters. They need to create an identity, and the addition of Zeller should help with that.
Zeller is an athletic big man that will run the floor and play hard on both ends of the floor.
In the last two drafts the Bobcats have tried to add defensive toughness with the selection of Biyombo and Kidd-Gilchrist and the Zeller pick is consistent with that pattern
The criticism of this draft is that it lacks star power at the top but is chalk full of guys that could at least contribute. That helps teams like the Bobcats that just need guys that can play. Of course they need that dynamic star player too, but Bobcats fans are still hoping that Walker can one day fill that role.
The 2012-13 Bobcats were bottom five in rebounds, points, assists, FG%, 3P, so consistent production in any of these areas will help a squad that's looking for all the help it can get. Zeller has a solid all around game and should be able to help a team that desperately needs it.
